425.0. "Stinson Lake?" by DTRACY::LAVASH (Same as it ever was...) Tue Jan 17 1995 20:27

Does anyone have any first hand experience on Stinson Lake in Rumney?

Looks like it's got lake trout and rainbows.

I was thinking about heading there for some ice fishing if we get some
cold weather...

I've fished there several times, my camp being 10 miles away. The
Rainbows that I caught were 14-16 inches. The lure that works best is
a silver spoon type. Stinson Lake seems to be all or none for me.
The only boat ramp that I know of has very limited parking, like 3
slots. It's a very beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. I would
never see anyone there at 6:30AM and 2 or 3 boats by 10:00AM. I see
many fishermen using worms and casting into the shore, but lures and
trolling is my approach. There is only one small deep hole around 70'
and the rest of the lake is 35' or less. At the far end is a stream
that has the nicest Brook Trout is ever seen,,although small.
    I've used a down-rigger looking for lakers,,,nothing there.

This is what I see when I'm there,,,hope it helps some.
