399.0. "Charter boat suggestions?" by LANDO::CHEW () Thu Jul 28 1994 17:40

I'm going to take my dad fishing for his birthday and was hoping to get
some pointers on a chartering a boat for 6. Had planned on calling
some boats on Cape Cod and am hoping to catch some Stripers or Bass.
Would appreciate anyone's opinion on a good, reliable crew and suggestions
    on location.

I've been on several deep sea charters, but never down the Cape. Would
prefer a small charter versus a large party boat unless there are
overwhelming arguments against. Not sure if a half day makes sense and
would like to go out Aug 6 if possible.

    Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Finding an open Saturday or Sunday might be a problem, but give this
Captain a try. His name is Ron Murphy. He charters out of Hyannis. The
boat is a 1992 35' custom made sports fisherman named the Stray Cat.
Ron usually fishes the shoals and rips around Nantucket or Cuttyhunk.
His fee is $450.00 for a full day with up to six passengers. If you are
looking for a booze cruise.. keep looking. If you want some serious
fishing time he's your man. Also..you keep the fish. Always ask this of
Cape Cod charter captains, some keep all the catch. Good Luck.

I went out two weeks ago with Bill Reynolds @MSO who charters his boat
out of Westport Mass. Best fishing myself and my boy's had in years.
Included two keeper stripers 37" and about 10 other non keepers along
with endless bluefish. I have chartered the boat agian for fall.

    God Luck

fishing - not too bothered what I fish for though the bigger the better
     - my dream is to go shark fishing - so any body got any ideas about
prices? A rough guess what be fine and do you have to go down to the
Keys - can you go out from the coast nearish Orlando?

I have some tourist info. phone numbers but was wondering if anyone
    knew the now anyway.

If you want bass, Capt Tony Tolentino out of Falmouth on the Cygnet
is the man. He's also a shark specialist. He's not cheap, but your
arms will fall off. I would not hesitate using him again. He's put us
in fish every time, and is willing to stay out late if the action is
slow until the end.

 Stuart-

Daytona is about 2 hours from Orlando on the Atlantic side.

They've got plenty of charters out of Rudee Inlet (south of the famous
strip). If memory serves it will run you $600-700 for a charter for
a day. Kind of steep if you will be fishing alone, but if you will be fishing
with others... This is for big game fishing- tuna, marlin, shark, with
shark being the easiest fish for the captain to put you onto.

You can also fish on a head boat for about $35. When we were there,
we did pretty well. Dolphin fish, kingfish, bonito. Plenty of fun,
and a lot easier to afford than a charter.

I will be fishing alone - well my friend and my son so the $35
sounds a lot better - aint that rich I'm - yet?

    	Thanks for the info.

I believe your thinking about Ponce Inlet, which is just
south of Daytona Beach. Rudee Inlet is at Virginia Beach, Va. :*)
