Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has fished Quinsig. I have been by
there many of times but, i have never fished there. I know they have
some big Pike but, what other kind of big fish is there?? Trout???
Salmon?? I'm also looking for a depth chart of the lake. Does anyone
know where i can get one??? I was planning on going there Sat. or
Sunday to give it a try. Can anyone help???

I've never fished it, but here's what i know. It's a big lake. The northern
side is deep, and the southern side is shallow and weedy (presumably where
you can find the pike, lm bass). THey also put in some of the breeder salmon,
but it's a long shot to catch one. Not sure about trout.
Contact/visit the Mass Division of FIsh and Wildlife in Westboro MA for
more info on stocking and for a map.

My wife caught a 14" trout on "Quinsig" 20-Apr-92. (Released) Caught on west shoreline between Rt-9 and I-290 bridges :-) Lake is deep. Southern end past Rt-9 bridge has some small islands that are nice. When passing between island/shore beware of shallow water. Environmental Divers were told to stay out of lake. Prolly loaded with leaky barrel's of corroded no-no gunk from way back. The public ramp next to I-290 on the South-East corner now has a skull launch area. I think it's for WPI? The dip-sticks that put this next to a power boat lauch ramp are real dumbos. This will surely cause traffic/safety problems when launching/landing. A lot of this planks drive with nobody facing foward to say "woops" :-( I have not been there since this nightmare was built. I most likely won't go back with the "FishTeaser" Torpedoed by skull 22-May-92 Charles River Watertown ramp while landing :-( good luck -< Tuna Tail >- dick | |||||
| 379.3 | Stay in the North end for deeper water | SUBPAC::MATTSON | Thu May 05 1994 08:42 | 18 | |
Bri,
I fished Quinsig quite a bit but mostly for Bass. The deepest part
of the Lake is at the North End. Directly across from the State boat
ramp the water gets down to about 80'. Most of the folks I see trolling
for Trout seem to stay between the Rt 9 and 290 bridges. The furthest
North you can go (a little past the 290 bridge) is an area where lots
of folks fish from shore for trout.
The further south you go once you hit the RT 9 bridge the water
tends to not be as deep. There are a few deep sections but not like
the 80' section I described. Every year you see somebody take a hugh
pike threw the ice. I'm not sure where they hide during the warmer
weather but they got to be there somewhere. The shoreline around most
of the Lake is highly developed and it's a very heavly fished body of
water. A lot of the shoreline is like a bowl, it drops off pretty
quickly.
