     Looking for directions for Massabesic Lake
     in N.H.

     Any suggested ice fishing spots/hints would
     also be appreciated.

    gerb, go to machester and take a right... fish are usually underneath
    the ice...

    ..ok... from mk, take 3n to 293 to 93n to 101e, get off at first exit
    (28 bypass), to the left is owens marine, ranger dealer, don't go
    there, no "floating toilets" allowed, 8^), take a right, wildlife
    taxidermy is a tackleshop on the right of the circle, from the 28bp you
    can go straigh thru the circle or exit left, both roads go along
    (different) sides of the lake, it's a good sized lake... never ice
    fished it myself...

347.2Map to Massabessic LakeVICKI::DODIERCars suck, then they dieThu Feb 10 1994 09:4639
    	Gerb,

    	I put a crude map in because the "going straight through the
    circle" part might throw you a little. You can see the lake from
    the Wild Life Taxidermy shop. You can get to Massebesic from either
    Exit 1 or Exit 2.

    	For ice fishing it probably doesn't matter, but if you're fishing
    in the spring/summer/fall and putting a boat in, there is a decent public
    ramp off of Rt. 121 with parking where I put the * on the map that follows.

    	There is public parking on Rt.28 bypass which you can see from the
    circle. There is also a place where Massabessic crosses Rt.28 Bypass
    further down. There is some limited parking there and a crude ramp.

    	I haven't spent that much time fishing Massebessic because I used
    to live closer to Pawtuckaway, which I think is a better bass lake. People
    that fish this in the summer though seem to spend more time toward the
    Manchester (West) side (i.e. to the right side of the road from Rt. 28
    Bypass). There seemed to be much better bass structure there.

    	If you know you're going to go drop me a line. If I have time I'll
    stop by. I live about 2 miles from the public ramp on Rt. 121.

347.3No wading - wear boots :)SUMMET::BENDELThu Feb 10 1994 13:1511
    To launch a boat there you must not stand in the water, even for
    a minute. Everyone launching boats there must wear boots while in the
    water, I'm told this is aggressively enforced. Or just stand on your
    trailer and you're ok. The point is they don't want anybody in contact
    with the water, since it is a reservoir, so make sure your kids don't
    wade! I was told this by a warden there and several other people
    boating, when I asked why everyone had boots :) Worth knowing before
    you head up, or get nailed for it!

so make sure that you don't touch the water or any fish which you
put back in the water, otherwise you've touched the water. Ick!

Also remember this....when you have to relieve yourself, DO NOT stick
it in the water!

Of course, if your name is Bobbit, you have nothing to worry about!
347.6it's for real, but yes extreme :)SUMMET::BENDELFri Feb 11 1994 14:294
    Laugh, it does seem ridiculous :) But I did see the warden yell at a
    little boy hanging his hand out of a canoe into the lake, or rather
    yell at the parents. What a big deal, huh ? Figure how they let motors
    in it!

   The difference is that there are lots of well known and easy ways to get
the oil out of the water (would you believe they divert the water from the
lake from the bottom leaving the oil at the top?), but bacterica is a different
story, particularly if the the processing plant is not heavy on the Clorine.

Al,

   What a great way to start an epidemic of Cholera!
