    It seems people having the most luck with stripers are the ones fishing
    with live pogies.  These are the guys with the 55 gallon drums in their
    boats and the hoses hanging out over the side. Some of them even drill
    holes in the side and glob a bunch of tape and putty to seal it.
    
    How about some pointers on what this rig is all about.
    
    Also, what's the best way to catch pogies if you just want one or two to
    fish with.

	The drums are used for a reason... 1. Cheap livewell. 2. Round, so pogies stay alive. Livewells with corners spell bad news as they end up killing themselves in the corner. The hoses are nothing more than aeration units to circulate sea water to help keep them alive. Aside from finding someone with live pogies and trying to buy a few, and short of putting out your own nets, the only other way I know of is to snag them with a weighted treble hook. 	Pogie = menhaden; other local names are bunkers, mossbunkers. It's a member of the herring family if I'm not mistaken (and if I am, H-C will let you all know.) :-)

	There were so many guys out there with pogies there must be someplace local you can buy them. I didn't see anyone fishing for them. Does anyone in this notes file use them. I'd be interested in how you rig and fish them. If not, I'll ask next time I'm on the water.

	There are a number of ways to catch them, which work well. The first is to throw a "weighted" treble hook into a school that you can see busting the surface. ( this sometimes is a last resort as some of the pogies are damaged.) Second is to throw a weighted net over them. (Thisa is the best but you must come up on them very slowly (drift) or you will spook them deep.). Rigging them depends on what your fishing for and if your trolling or drifting. I use the "hook in the spine" technique for drifting and "jaw" placement for trolling. I find that hooking both "lips" causes them to die quicker. Pogies need lots of fresh water, so you'll need a good live well. We use a 35 gallon unit with a water puppy pump, that empties overboard and fills from the bottom.
