243.0. "reels and magazines for RUSSIAN Fishermem..." by PHONE::GORDON () Sat Dec 19 1992 17:13

My sister and her husband who own Nesting Loon Cabins in
Lincoln, Maine got quit a shock the second week of Dec.

They received a letter from two Russian fishermen who had seen
their add in the August 1991 issue of Outside Magazine.

They have acknowledged the letter and are going to be sending
more info to the two men along with some reels that their guide
is fixing up. In the letter the russian said they have great problems
with fishing reels and asked if my sister could send one or two
    inexpensive used reels.

They also would like any copies of some U.S.A. fishing magazines..

I told my sister I'd put an entry in here cause it wouldn't hurt,
and she said that these fishermen would also like to strike up
    correspondense(?sp) with other usa fishermen.

If anyone out there has any old reels laying around or any old
fishing magazines and want to send them to me I'll see my sister gets
them or you can send them directly to my sister explaining they are for
the russians. Anyone wants more confermation on this email me and I'll
send you the copy of the letter that was reprinted in the Lincoln News
    on Dec 17,1992....thanks Dick gordon

Send them an empty thread spool, a paperclip, and a nail.

They'll be happy to have it, and they'll put it right to use catching
    oil-laden suckers.

Watched about a hundred Russians fishing for contaminated fish, and not
one of them had a reel. They're probably very intrigued by the notion.
