233.0. "ice on my guides" by KAM500::LEPAGE (Prisoner of gravity) Tue Nov 17 1992 09:54

Hi,

This conference is full of good stuff..but i can't seem to
find anything on this subject.

What can be used to keep the ice from building on my guides
when fishing in the fall/winter.

i heard something about WD40, silicone spray, vasoline etc..

but i've also heard that these product will weaken your line.

anyone care to comment.

from the great white north,
Ger.

A light coating of silicone spray will keep ice from forming without
causing any line damage.

Geez...it's been awfully quiet in here lately. Unfortunately, my boat got
winterized this past weekend and stored up on blocks. Of course, if we
get a weekend with the temps back up near 50, watch how fast it comes out of
storage! Still... a VERY DEPRESSING WEEKEND!

233.2Rain-X!SPESHR::GSMITHWed Nov 18 1992 16:345
    How about trying Rain-X on the guides and on the rod itself. If ice
    does form, it will be a lot easier to remove.

    I find keeping my rods inside during the winter prevents ice buildup
    and makes for a comfortable day.

233.4Blakemore Reel SprayWMOIS::BOURGAULT_DMon Jun 28 1993 18:538
    Another thing you can use is the Blakemore reel lubricant spray. Spray
    guides, spools reduces memory and allows for better operation.
    BPO has it. I was at the a seminar and it was highly regarded by Guido
    and two other pro's .
