225.0. "SOUTH POND INFO NEEDED" by TOLKIN::LANGELIER () Fri Oct 23 1992 09:21

Last weeks edition of the New England Fisherman, did an article
regarding "South Pond", which according to their map, was near
Sturbridge. I have searched the Atlas and can't find such a
pond/lake. The write up on it, looked like it had very good
    ice fishing potential.

Has anyone ever fished it? Can someone provide directions?
How about some other info ie; Good locations to fish, where to
    park etc etc etc.

    Appreciate any input

Dave, look on a map in brookfield. South pond is connected to the
south end of Quaboug pond and it's real name is Quanacumsett [I
know thats not right] but you get the idea,an indian name. It's
a very deep pond noted for good bass, pike and trout fishing.
It's off of RTE. 49 [PODUNK PIKE] but hopefully someone who knows
the street names can take you from here.

I think the name is closer to Quinopoxet, though I know that's
	not right either ;-)

8 lb browns my arse :-/ more like 1-2 lbers. Though legend
has it the deep water is a good place to fish for bigger ones.
Never had much luck ice fishing there, though I never put much
time in. Spring trolling for trout is good though.

One way to get there is to turn off Rt 9 at the Clam Shack in
Brookfield (which is abotu a mile or 2? west from Rt 9/49 intersection
if coming from Rt 20) Follow that winding road for 1-2 miles and you'll
see Quabog pond on the right. Proceed past Quabog and take
your first right. Follow that road and take your first right
again. South will be on your left. Parking and a ramp are
after the bridge. It's not the most direct way, but it's the
easiest way for me to explain it.
