I'm leaving this weekend for a two week trip to Scotland. I was wondering if anyone of our friends across the pond had any info on possible fishing oppurtunities during the weekend of October 3rd ? Ocean, river or lake's ??? What are the licensing requirements ? I understand there are the equivelant of an East coast party boat that go out of Ayr. Does anyone have any info on these ? Are there any public trout or salmon waters ? I've heard that most are private. My wife thinks I'm nuts! "Don't you want to go and see all the sight seeing attractions...castles, museums, all that stuff ???" she says. Not me...When people talk about Loch Ness, my mind starts to think how many salmon there'd have to be in there to feed a few big monsters ;-) Thanks for any info, Marty

Marty, depends where your based in Scotland for your Hols ( or should I say vacation ) and what type of fishing you'd like to do. All over Scotland there is plenty of Salmon and Trout fishing, wild hill lochs, stocked ponds for rainbows, plus rivers which are now mostly full of Salmon. Any local Tourist Info. centre will supply a list of available waters. If you are near Ayr and you would like to meet up, I can take you free of charge on to the Digital Ayr Angling Club stretch of the River Girvan ( Salmon / Sea trout ) for a few hours / all day if you want. If you've got time mail me on SSMPRD::GMONTGOMERIE if not, once you arrive here call me on 0292-289468, 20 Rowan Crescent, Ayr, and we can make arrangements. If its sea fishing your after, then most smaller ports around the country have sea angling charter boats, again see the Tourist Information centres. But yes your correct Ayr does have fishing party trips, but to be honest there isn't that much to catch out there, and what there is, is very small. Further up the West or noth coasts a different matter, and good sport could be had from Oban on the west right up to the top and down to Aberdeen on the East coast. I don't know if you'll get this reply in time, Any way enjoy your holiday whatever happens. Gordon. | |||||
