200.0. "Pittsburgh N.H. info needed" by CGVAX2::JITMFG () Tue Jul 07 1992 15:39

    Does anyone have any info to share about fishing in Pittsburgh, N.H..
    Particularly the 1st and 2nd Connecticut lakes. A few questions I have
    are:

    Would a canoe be a good idea on these lakes?

    Is there any good Bass of Pickerel fishing on these lakes, and if there
    are what techniques do you advise.

    I'm leaving on the 16th of July for a 5 day weekend. Any info. will be
    appreciated.

    							Thanks

    that's pretty much salmonoid country up there, i'd think trout if i
    were you... additionally, those lakes can get real rough real fast,
    i recall being shocked (no pun intended) by a crack of thunder, while
    out on 1st (or 2nd, i don't recall), the horizon in front of me was
    blue, behind me it had turned solid black! i belined it to the nearest
    shore... it can get nasty up there...

    pretty country though, lots of moose (more moose than fish sometimes!)

200.2NEVER DID BASS UP THERE.PIPPER::STURNERWed Jul 08 1992 03:0411
        I used to fish up there, about six years back, at a place called
    Camp Otter. We got Trout trolling but had the best results going for
    laketrout. We'd set out at dusk and bottom fish with small suckers.
    Nailed some real nice ones.

    We rented 14 foot row boats with 15 horse engines. You can use canoes
    during the day when it's calm but don't go out to far. Like it said
    in reply 2, it can get bad out there in a matter of minutes!

                                                          Good luck.

 I've been on the first lake and the third lake in a canoe.

 The third lake is appropriately sized for a canoe. The first lake is not
(unless it is VERY calm.) The weather changes very quickly- we went from
near dead calm to 2 foot breakers in a matter of 2 minutes. A white knuckler
for sure!

 Be careful up there!

 If I were going up there, I wouldn't miss fishing the river or Indian Stream...

    Thanks for the input guys. It sounds like I'm going to need a bigger
    boat.

    							Thanks again,
