193.0. "Seeking York Maine info" by GERBIL::MAGEE () Fri Jun 26 1992 11:38

    I will be up in York Maine tomorrow and was wondering
    if it is worth wetting a line from the shore. Last year
    I tried it from the Nubble Light area as well as from the
    rocks to the right of Short Sands beach. Also tried from
    a local bridge and caught the same thing from all of them-
    NOTHING!

    I don't know if I dare risk my pride again.
    Any reports, tips...

    Gee, you were fishing around Nubble Light and you didn't hook any
    divers? Must have been a rough day (or a Sunday).

    At dawn and at dusk, schools of pollack are rumored to to come into
    shore around Nubble Light. Otherwise your finfish options would seem to
    be limited to dogfish, Sea Ravens, and a few other garden-variety sculpins.

    This is the first I ever heard of anybody actually trying to hook a
    fish from there.

193.2Nubble has pollock (like every other place!).GNPIKE::NICOLAZZOOver 5,000,000,000 served.Fri Jun 26 1992 13:126
    Last time I dove Nubble Light, I saw several schools of small pollock.

    John is right though - the most common species there ('cept sunday) are
    scuba divers.

    Funny you joked about hooking a diver. I DID!!!

    I was reeling in my lure when this guy comes to the
    surface and swims right into the lure. The more I tried
    to avoid him the closer he came- like a moth into the fire.

    There was an area marked off for the divers and probably
    ten fishermen in another area. This is where he decided
    to surface. It took two other divers to unhook him and
    there was no blood so it wasn't too bad.

    FYI- a guy who was in the cabin next to us hooked two
         keeper blues in two days from there. I saw them
         and they were real- not in his imagination!

    Well it's not exactly the York area but I'll be staying in the
    Old Orchard Beach area in mid-July and was wondering if anybody knew
    some good spots for bass/blues or whatever. Thanks

    Try Saco Bay Tackle Co in Saco Me they are the unofficial hot line for
    fishing in that area. Sorry but I don't have their number right now but
    it should be easy to find.
