I was at the marina the other day looking at the new Smoker Craft line of boats and Suzuki engines. Suzuki doesn't make at 20hp so the sales person was pushing twin 9.9hp insted. The reason for limiting the HP to 20 is the Quabin and twinn 9.9's will qualify. Two things come to mind when I think of the twin engines 1. Twice the Maintenance 2. Safty of 2 one fails you have the other Many questions remain or just looking for the pro's and con's. Haven't found the info elswhere so I would like to open this note as a discussion of twin outboard engines over the single one.

Discussed at great length in the boating file, dir/tit=twin ought to find it. To summarize: Advantages: 1) Redundancy 2) Maneuverability. Can turn on a dime. Disadvantages 1) Fuel consumption worse than equiv single. 2) Maintenance Costs, complexity, more things to fiddle with. | |||||
