| The permit is 45.00/yr for oversand permit and 75.00/yr
for self contained vehicles Class C class A and pickup type campers.
The season run from April 15 to Nov. 15.
A self contained vehicle can stay up to 21 days bu must exit every 72 hrs
to dump. Some folks even tow boats out there and launch them off the beach.
For equipment, Shovel, a large board (to put the jack on) jack,
acceptable spare tire. Tow rope, 3/4 for nylon 1" for rope, 3/4 for chain.
1/4" for wire rope. I'M Not sure on the tow strap. .
The rope and chain must have connecting devices. I went to the local HW store
bought some wire rope, hooks and associated hardware and made my own.
You must also have a tire pressure gauge that goes down to five lbs.
It is also advisable to have a device to reinflate your tires when you leave
the dunes. (you must deflate down to 15lbs.
There are plenty of bait shops. Goose Hummock at teh rotary in orleans,
As you take a right off of rte 6 to head toward Race Point there is one
on the right.

Race Point, the scene of many successful blue massacres!
a fine location for schools of bait fish and blues and poppers
to all meet and mingle.
Tackle-shops, there are a few of them, some are easier to get to
than others. For starters there's one right there next to the
Race entrance just off rte 6. 100yds or so up on the right, problem
is that they open at 08:00, to late to catch the early sunrise
fishing, and just in time for the bathers.
I go to Blackbeards (248-3369), in eastham, nice guy seems to have
semi-reliable information, knows what he's talking about. Prices
aren't SPAG's but remember where you are. He has a complete line
of tackle and equipment. Its a little tricky to find, he's behind
a small collection of shops right on rte 6. Best thing to do call
him, and he'll tell you the shops names, I just go by sight now.
GooseHummmock someone already mentioned...good people in there too.
They also rent rods & reels in case you want to break someone in.

Isn't Blackbeards on Massassoit rd. behind the box lunch ?
Have you been down yet this year ? there have been a lot of changes.
They moved the camping area to the other side of Race Point beach. The
access to the left has been moved so your not going over the wooden access
road, but using the fire road instead.
Mike
Hope to be back down there next week.

re: .3
No I haven't ventured out that far as of yet, coming from
Shrewsbury its drive, and most of "hot" action is still closer
down on the south shore beaches...
I'm not familiar with the names of the roads leading into Race.
I do know that from where I fish, its usually right off the State
parking lot. Paved all the way. I just walk over the dunes, and
down onto beach.
I don't have a 4-wheeler, but there are always vehicles coming onto
the beach from just north of where I fish.
Massasoit Rd...Box Lunch, Yup! thats the place, My brother-in-law
found Blackbeards coming back from Sunken Meadow one time.

| I would also second the recommendation on Blackbeards. He put me
into the schoolies a couple of weeks ago. I will be down in
Eastham the last wek of July. It is off Massasoit Rd just past
the sheritan.

I'll also recommend "blackbeards" in Eastham I was just there all of
last week and found his prices to be the same or better than
"goose hammocks". By the way the blues are hitting at high tide on
cut mackeral, I fished mostly at sunken meadow beach, can't wait
to go back in 2 weeks.

188.9 | Race Point Closed To 4WD This Week | LEDS::VESESKIS | | Mon Jul 06 1992 14:08 | 12 |
|
Read in the Boston Globe this sunday that the Race Point beaches are
closed to 4wd the week of July 4 and possibly the week after. Apparently
the plovers (sp?) are nesting in the dunes and they don't want to have any
traffic going thru them. So if you have any plans for this coming
weekend I suggest you give them a call first since they were
non-commital on whether they may close down for next week as well.
You are allowed to walk on the beaches though but that's not much fun
if you have to lug a lot of stuff, especially if your favorite spot is
2 miles from the entrance.

188.10 | The Attack Of the Piping Plovers | CV60::PETERSON | | Mon Jul 06 1992 14:48 | 9 |
| Saw it on TV Friday night. Sure glad I didn't have an plans to go down this
weekend. They said it could be closed for up to FOUR weeks AAAAHHHGGGGG!!!.
I guess I will put off the cape vacation until I find out when they will
be reopened.
And to think I donated $45.00 for the plovers to have a great fourth.
