181.1 | Made for Sears .......... | SALEM::PAPPALARDO | | Fri May 22 1992 18:04 | 7 |

Not sure who is the manufacturer but that is the Sears brand motor
made for them. A call to one of their service center may lead you
to who made them.

181.2 | Force Thats The Ticket | MTADMS::GALLO | | Tue May 26 1992 07:52 | 12 |
| I believe the manufacture is Force for
that engine. I bought The 15 H.P 3 years
ago for $997.00 .The motor runs great, I
did bye the service plan for motor because,
I was not sure about it. The only problem I
had the prop started to rub on the metal housing.
The plan covered it and a new Prop also. B^)
Thats the only time I ever got my money's worth on
the service plan. You get my Vote.
Good Luck

| I have a '86 7.5hp Game Fisher that runs like a top and this motor is
run quite a bit. It was purchased at Sears by the guy I bought it from.
I don't know who the actual manufacturer is but I know that no marina I
have ever been to carries parts or is even willing to work on it. I
have also contacted small engine repair shops to have the carb looked
at and no one was willing to look at it even though it is a Tecumsah
engine.
I have however always been able to get help at the Sears parts and
repair division on Brown ave. in Manchester. As a matter of fact I am
heading there in the next week or so to pick up a new cowel.
Bottom line run's great, but don't think I would ever, get another
since the only place for parts and service is Sears and sometimes they
can have long delays.

181.4 | You get what you pay for | GOLF::WILSON | | Tue May 26 1992 17:07 | 17 |
| Recent Sears Gamefisher outboards are built by Eska. As experienced
by the author of .3, they probably work OK until something goes
wrong. Then you're at the mercy of Sears for parts and service.
No one else will touch it.
I have a Sears 1.75hp outboard with a bad flywheel. The thing
is so poorly and cheaply made, it's a real piece of cr*p. The
difference in quality between this and a similar OMC or Merc is
just amazing. Sears wants $100 just for the flywheel, and in my
opinion the whole motor in running condition is worth about half
that. I know of no used parts sources for these motors, whereas
I can buy a used flywheel for an OMC for under $20.
The Sears motor is the closest I've ever seen to a disposable
motor; use it til it breaks and throw it away.

re .3
I don't know about you, but the 7.5 hp that I had was nothing but a
single-cylinder rattletrap! That thing made more noise than a chainsaw!
I would suggest NOT buying one if you have a choice. Luckily, I got rid
of mine for a way decent price. JMHO ;-)

181.6 | Some were air coolde | DNEAST::OKERHOLM_PAU | | Wed May 27 1992 17:57 | 6 |
| I haven't followed the Sears line very closely but I know the smaller
ones were air cooled. This is what makes them so noisy. The 9.9 may be
water cooled and if so will be quieter.
I also don't have any first hand experience but I would stay with
the big names to avoid the parts sourcing problems already noted.

I have a sears 7.5 in my bulkhead all it needs is the rubber
grip for the pull starter, and its stuck in nuetral. I have
no plans to fix it, and sears wants $75.00 bucks just to look at
it!! (no thankyou).
