    		THE CROPPIES ARE IN

    	Up here on the Rideau River in Ontario, the Black Crappies have
    moved into the warming still water areas and begining to feed. We
    caught a fair number of them but had to work for them. You couldn't
    catch more than two or three fish at the most on any single jig. I was
    down to 1/64 & 1/100 oz. and 2 lb. line and could only produce a fish
    every four or five minutes. They tasted like food for the gods to this
    fish starved Kanuk angler. Check to see if there are any around where
    you live if you are looking to test out some of that new tackle you
    bought this past winter.

    	Later, I'm headin' out to the river as soon as they let me go for
    the day.  Chow.

    My guess is they'll try and reschedule for next month.

    These sure are unusual conditions. I wonder if there are any ponds
    with Rainbows that are legal to fish from a boat in right now...?

    Bow Lake?
161.3bow iced in?RANGER::MACINTYRETerminal AnglerTue Jan 17 1995 14:007
    Bow was one of my considerations, I'm going to try and pickup a rule
    book tonight and see if it's available.

    Anyone know if it's iced in?

Don,

I was chatting with a friend yesterday and he said the main lake at Bow is
wide open. I wouldn't doubt it considering the weather. If we do get some
colder weather before the Winnie Ice Derby, I suspect the crowds will be
found on a lot of the smaller lakes and ponds stocked with rainbows rather
than try going out on Winnie.

Soooo...how many more days before we head to Santee and leave all this crap
behind?!? (Of course, if this mild weather continues, we could be leaving
an early spawn behind.)

161.5Webster open?DELNI::GAFFNEYGone fishin/racinMon Mar 24 1997 18:467
    Anyone fish Lake Webster this weekend. Just wondering if the
    whole lake is open. What about the ramps? Is the town ramp
    open this early, or would the state ramp be a better bet.
    Am sure hoping to get out this coming weekend.

161.9Webster, I love that place!DELNI::GAFFNEYGone fishin/racinMon Mar 31 1997 19:1414
    No skunks here! Well, the spaceship never made an appearance, so I
    went trout fishin at Webster Saturday morning. Pea soup thick fog!
    I did get my limit though, 2 rainbows and a brown. Nice fish, all
    around 1 1/2 to 2 pounds. I hadn't fished for stocked trout in
    years. Now I remember why, they are wimps!!!! A 10" smallie will
    fight better than these pen raised fish. But I talked to two boats
    that were bass fishin, and they didn't have a hit. So, all in all,
    it was worth it. A guy trolling not to far in front of me caught
    a nice slamon, well over 5 pounds. Now that one knew how to fight!
    If this snow ever melts, I might try for one of those salmon again
    next weekend.
