Well, tommorrow is opening day of trout season in Georgia, for the
    seasonal lakes and streams.

The weather is going to be rainy, with showers, and a high of 60.
Thank God I bought a rainsuit. I will be out there rain or shine.
Taking my wife, Diana, to fish as well. Hope we can catch a double
limit and be home by noon.

Got to get the yard cut, and work in the garden.

    Hey Bob,

How's it going??? When are you going to get out to Lake Lanier and do
some real fishing??? Those Big Bad Stripers and Captain Louis look good
    to me right about now!!!

Doesn't look like I'll be making it to the South this year.

    Have fun,
    Bob M.
108.3spots are shredding at lanierODIXIE::RHARRISHow many days until deer season?Fri Mar 26 1993 16:3518
    Bob,

Louis sold his boat. Louis and myself are building small johnboats
in my basement. Mine will be ready to fish out of in about 2 weeks.
I have been fishing lanier with my friend Earl, and we are in a tourney
    next week on lanier.
The fish at lanier are stackin up and ready to bust. We should shred
    come tourney time.

Going up to the mountains first thing in the am and go for a double
limit of stockers. Opening day is always "meat" fishing in a nice
scene. Thank god it's raining big time though, should keep the crowds
    down.

    bend that rod.

Took the boat out on the hooch yesterday. Drifted a worm for about 3-4
hours. Caught seven trout. 3 browns, 4 rainbows. All averaged about
11-12 inches. Released them all. Someone at the boat ramp had a 24
inch brown. Beautiful fish. That is what I'm fishing for.

Weather permitting, I might hit the river again this weekend, or fish
Lanier with Earl. Earl, got to get your boat fixed, or I will fish
    the river.

Hey, Bob...

knock it off! We still have lots of stiff water up here in the N'east.

I'm envious!

As I read the previous notes, I laugh at the base note. Opening day
of trout season in the mountains is this Saturday, and we have the
same damn forcast. I'll be there. This time I take my nephew fishing,
and coworker. I have already won. Got two more people hooked on
fishing. We can collectively catch a total of 24 trout, 8 per person.
I took the little 8 foot johnboat (homemade) on lake Lanier this past
weekend for a company type fishing tournament. It was extremely windy,
and the whitecaps had me sweatin more than I had time to fish. I was
crazy to put the boat on that water.. I guess it's just made for small
lakes, ponds, and the river. Oh well, 3 days until opening day in the
    mountains.

    Bend that rod,

    Bob

108.9ODIXIE::RHARRISProud to be NRA lifer!Tue Mar 29 1994 10:1821
    Wess,

Caught 15 by 9 am. Then someone switched off the fishing for EVERYONE
at 9 am. Did a little offroading. Checked out some streams and lakes,
and caught one more in a stream at about 3 p.m. Then went to grub out
    on some killer BBQ.

Saturday night, I dropped my nephew off at a campsite where his church
was camping, and saw six deer. I asked the park ranger if it was ok
for me to spotlight and video tape the deer. He said no problem, just
don't shoot them. As you know, spotlighting is illegal in Georgia, so
I could not believe that he said it was ok. Anyway, I got a couple of
deer on video. Sure is fun driving around the state park spotlighting.
I'll go out there next weekend and do it again. Of course after trout
    fishing again.

I love my new rod. Daiwa procaster ultralight. No backbone at all! I
can bend it tip to tip. Perfect for those 1-2 lb trout!

Took the boat out on the river Saturday for about 4 hours. Trolled
with 3/4 inch rapalas and caught 14 trout. AVerage weight was 1.5 lb.
    Good four hours of fishing.

Three quarters of an inch? As in 0.75"? I don't think I've seen them that
small. Do they have a single hook?

ooops! I meant 1 3/4 inch. The rainbow pattern caught 8, and the
browntrout pattern caught 6. 13 rainbows, and one brown were caught.
We had three more that were hooked, but they spit the lure out just
before getting to the boat. I also lost my gold plated surgical
hemostats (fish hook removers) in the river. Fell out of the boat. So
for the rest of the day, I kept taking the hooks out with my fingers.
I said ouch a few times. No sweat though. Ended up being a nice
stringer of fish that weighed close to 20 lbs.

What are the limits on trout down there??
I've been told it will be 2 trout in some lakes this 1994 year in NH.

>Ended up being a nice stringer of fish that weighed close to 20 lbs.

Did you eat all those in one sitting?
108.16ODIXIE::RHARRISI am the NRA, for life!Tue Apr 05 1994 10:2014
The limit is 8 per angler, per day. My wife Diana was with me. I
caught 8, and she caught 6. Did we eat all those in one sitting? No.
Funny thing is, I love trout fishing, yet I don't eat them. I catch
them, clean them, and give them away to friends. There is a line of
people that want my fish. I am a venison eater though.

Oh, spank the back of my hand. Those Rapala's were 1.5 inch, not .75
or 1.75 inch rapalas. All caught on two pound line. I changed line
last night to 6 pound line. Now with the time change, I might load
the boat on the truck, and go after work for a couple of hours of
fishing. Only after the Masters Golf tourney this week.

I wasn't beating on you about the size of the Rapalas, I was genuinely
interested in what might have been a new lure. There are Helin Flatfish
about that small, with a single hook, sold for fly fishing.

Thanks for the clarification.

    Bob,

You are so full of it, your eyes are probably brown. Your wife
probably didn't even go! You coolered those fish as fast as you could
and went back and caught the other limit. Just kidding, sounds like
you had a great day. Since those are mainly stocked trout, I don't see
a damn thing wrong with keeping them to eat. If I lived a little
closer, I would bring the skillet!

Catch one over 14lb 3oz and give me a call.

    Wess,

At least 8 of the fish were hold overs from last year. To big and
healthy for DNR stockers. I still want to get that 4 pounder plus
to get mounted. Place it between those two mutant, monster, record
class bucks I took down last season. You know the ones, the ones
that are dwarfed sitting next to your gargantuan, magnificient 18 point
    ultra buck racks.

    Bob,

The only way I would have 18 points worth of rack is if I looked at
one of my 9 pointers with my eyes crossed for double exposure...hmmm,
    I might try that!

Good luck if you get out this weekend, I am headed for southern Ky to
my dad's farm for some turkey scouting.

Took the boat out this weekend and trolled for three hours. Caught 7.
Threw two back, they were to small. Took my wife to the trout hatchery
Sunday. AFter looking at the BIG fish they were getting ready to throw
in the river, she said, "Let's go fishing." One day after work this
    week I'll hit the river.

    Tight lines,
