74.0. "White River, Arkansas info?" by CSC32::R_MAYER () Thu Oct 03 1991 18:02

    Anyone out there have information on trout fishing in the White River,
    Arkansas? Any hints as to the best section to fish/float etc., would
    be helpful. I plan on going in March of 92'....

    RICH--IJUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS CONFERENCE, AND LOOKING THROUGH THE
    NOTES. THIS IS TOO LATE TO DO YOU ANY GOOD, BUT I'M INTERESTED IN
    FINDING OUT HOW YOU DID. MY IN-LAWS LIVE NOT TOO FAR FROM THE WHITE
    NEAR SALEM. I KAYAKED SOMEWHAT DOWNSTREAM FROM NORFORK DAM WITH MY
    SON, AND NO FISHING TACKLE. WE SAW A LOT OF TROUT IN THE 12-18"
    CATEGORY. YOU PROBABLY KNOW THAT 1-2 YEARS AGO SOMEONE CAUGHT THE
    WORLDS RECORD BROWN TROUT IN THE RIVER JUST BELOW THE DAM. IT WAS
    SOMEWHERE NEAR 40#, BREAKING THE RECORD SET IN SCOTLAND, I BELIEVE, IN
    1869.

    Unfortunately, my wife had a back injury in February of '92, and my
    fishing gear has been gathering dust since then...

    The last TWO world record Browns came from tributaries of the White, a
    39+ pounder, and in May of 92, a 40+ pounder, from the Little Red
    River, which joins the White somewhat south of the Norfolk.

    Hopefully, I'll try the area next spring...
