I'm an avid freshwater fisherman. The majority of my fishing time is spent
hunting, catching and releasing bass. I'm a member of the NH BassMasters.

My largest largemouth to date is a 7lb 12oz from NH. Largest smallmouth is
only about 4.5lbs, also from NH.

I have a Lowe 160 bass boat, which is pretty well suited for my fishing.
If I'm not prefishing for a tournament, or actually fishing in one - the
odds are I'm on a river. I've been called a river rat mor than once.

I spend almost as much time in my canoe as I do in my bassboat. Canoe camping
with my wife, son, and anyone else who'd care to join us, is one of my favorite
ways to spend a summer weekend. I'm looking forward to doing some extended
canoe camping in the future.

Each year I take a 10 day trip down south with a few other folks from this
conference, as well as occasional long weekend trips. This year's spring
trip was fantastic, catching lots of hawgs at Santee-Cooper, SC.

I've participated in this file from pretty much the bginning, 5 or so years
ago. I was the chief moderator of the original fishing notesfile for the
last 3-4 years - but recently handed the file over to the Doc. I still
retain moderator privs and help when I can, but the Doc takes care of buisness.

Over the last 5 or so years I have learned alot about fishing and a big part
of that came from this file and the many friends that I have made through it.

Here's to a continued sharing of our love for the sport.

Tight lines,
-donmac

ps: Oh yea, when I'm not on the water, I play Project Leader for the
     PATHWORKS for VMS software effort.

I fish in fresh- and salt water. We have a 24' outboard boat for the
salt and bigger lakes, and a 14 aluminum boat for smaller stuff. We also
have a Merrimac fiberglass canoe for teenie stuff.

I'm not a blood-n-guts fisherman. If they predict 3-5' seas and 15-25
know winds I stay home and read. If it rains I stay home. If the weather
is good I might run out to the northern tip of Jeffrey's Ledge, which is
a fur piece, some 40 miles out of Hampton Harbor (my favorite sw launch
ramp). I'd rather go to Wentworth Lake (my favorite fw launch ramp), and
see six boats, than Winnipesaukee and see 6,000 boats (driven by 5,000
fools).

I have a Plano tackle box that looks like a steamer trunk and has about a
hundred crankbaits just in the top drawer, but I use Zara Spooks,
Torpedoes and Rebels most of the time. In the salt I stick with Bombers,
Rebels, Hopkins, and Vike-E jigs. Still, I study the wall at Zyla's
every time I go in, and never leave empty-handed.

According to my wife we have enough rods & reels to compete with
Surfland, Red Top, and Kittery Trading Post. By my reckoning, I still
need two more sw spinning reels, one fw spinning reel, and a different
fishfinder for the Sea Nymph.

Walt Bing, work in Hudson,MA and live in Clinton. If I had my
choice I would rather hunt than fish but I can find a couple months
out of the year to fish. My largest bass was caught this year and
weighed in at 6 pounds. I like to fly fish and tie my own flies. They
aren't pretty but do catch fish. I don't own a boat but do have access
to a canoe any time I want it. As I said I would rather hunt and my
mind and efforts are slowly turning towards hunting. So if I'm going
to catch one bigger than the 6 pounder I better do it quick or I'm
going to have to wait till next spring.

I do both fresh and salt water fishing. This year, salt has had my
attention. I don't have a boat, but I will someday (at least 1!)
Meanwhile, I go with people from the file and from shore.

My favorite species include: bass (LM, SM, stripers), bluefish,
cod/pollock, tuna (still waiting to catch one) and smelt.

My largest LM bass is 5lb even.

My largest fish is a 17lb, 34.5" striper (this will change when I get
    the tuna!)

I have 5 freshwater rods, three smelt rods, a surf rod, a cod rod and a
flyrod. This is approximately half of the rods I'd like to have. I'm
more or less set on freshwater.

    I have 3 plano 1152s (1 for gitzit/grub/worms, 1 for cod jigs and
teasers, on for bluefish plugs and poppers) and a plano 1257 (for the
rest of the bass stuff). Additionally, I have a small fenwick which
serves for trout/generic (take a kid pumpkinseed fishing) and a small
plano utility box full of sweedish pimples, hooks and splitshot for
smelting. Someday I plan to have a big, 25' tackle box with 400Hp
kicking at the rear. Then I'll need standup rods for tuna.

I can usually go fishing at the drop of a hat, so if you're looking for
a fishing partner, give me a holler.

I only fish the salt. Have fished some fresh, but not usually enough to
    justify the cost of a license. I like to fish for fish I can eat;
blues, flounder, tautog, cod, bonito, etc.

Biggest fish I've caught is a three foot striper. Didn't weigh it or
keep it. Never kept one. Have also caught 10 pound bonito, 5 pound
spanish mackerel, and 8 - 10 pound squeteague, but not lately. Have
done most of my catching in Martha's Vineyard. Done a bunch of fishing
from the shore around here, but not much catching. No boat, but I have
a boat rod, for party boats, a surf rod that I built, and a couple of
smaller light tackle rods that are a lot of fun. I usually carry one
tackle box, well loaded with some of everything, but I have another all
set for party boats/ cod fishing, and another with 'spares', as well as
a couple of boxes full of assorted 'stuff'. Some of which is even
    identifiable.

I'm usually ready to go fishing anytime and anyplace. Anyone looking
for a fishing partner for a day or something, give me a shout. I don't
    need much notice or pushing.

facilities, as a work coordinator in logistics

all my fishing is in freshwater, mostly for salmonoids, bass, and the
such. I curently have 2 boats 1 15 ft starcraft completely set for
salmonoid fishing, and a 12 ft crawdad for bass fishing.

Most of my fishing time is spent on lake O, best fish so far have been
a 8 lb lm bass from NH, a 4.1596 sm bass from NH (weighted on fed ex
scale) and a 33 lb salmon taken july 3 1990.

As far as tackle goes I got 7 tackle boxs full of all kinds of neat
stuff, one is a 797, and I got a maximate 240 for the salmon lures
thats full(even got some lures doubled up) and another box for king
tackle j plugs, squids, and an assortment of dodgers & flashers.

At last count we have 21 poles and reels, I dont understand it fishing
tackle is like a magnet to me, I inventoried all my equipment last year
for my insurance company to get it covered, and they wouldnt beleive me
they wanted me to go to a dealer and have him verify everything and
then have us go to a notary public and have my list's notarized, well
after talking to the insurance adjuster he said just keep the list in a
safe place and if anything ever happens we will replace your equipment
    that you have listed.

well thats about it for now, maybe I will have a lake O trip report to
enter in this file on monday.

I fish both fresh water and salt, but I like salt better because
of the meat among other things. I love the deep sea and dream
of catching tuna for the freezer someday. Never caught a large
mouth bass bigger than 3.5 lbs or so, and someday I will catch that
5+ lb'er! I recently, *finally*, caught bass on rubber worms and
slug-go's, so there is hope ;-)

Getting out there has been tough without a boat, but last weekend
	I picked up a mahogany 1958 17' Thomspon with a '78 65 hp Evinrude in
great condition from a friend of the family. So I expect to get out
much more, once I get a vehicle to tow it!

    information about aquatic habitats.

I am actively involved in the restoration of the Shawsheen River in

others preserve or restore their favored bodies of water.

I'm willing to try almost anything when it comes to fishing, in fact
my favorite thing is fishing for a species I've never caught before.
Last year, I tried smelt fishing for the first time (thanks Tim!).
This year, I've gone for tautog, american shad, and I'm currently
searching for that elusive keeper striped bass.

Most of my fishing career has been in fresh water, started with
dunking worms for brookies, moved on to flyfishing for trout, and
later took up bass fishing. I started surfcasting about 15 years
ago (back when stripers where nearly impossible to catch).
These days I probably spend 80% of my fishing time chasing largemouth
bass from a canoe, though I'd much rather be fishing the salt - its
just too far from home for me to get out very often!

This conference has been a great help answering questions for me
when I get that urge to try for some new species - keep up the good
	work!

Now, I understand the fluke should be around south of the Cape about
	now... any hints? :*)

I fish out of a Lund Tyee on the bigger TVA lakes and have a canoe now
for fishing the rivers, streams and smaller ponds. I also bank fish a
lot out of the trunk of my Taurtoise. Favorite waters are Watts Bar
Lake and Melton Hill Lake and the Little Pigeon River. All are highly
polluted with various substances including radioactive waste - makes
fishing at night that much easier.

Biggest bass has been a 5# smallmouth taken out of Lake Rohunta in
Orange, Ma. Biggest fish was a cod >12#. Weirdest fish was the gar I
almost caught on Bistineau with Coonass Bob.

Have lots of rods, reels and tackle boxes full of lures. The number of
each varies because I'm hard on the equipment and the best stuff never
lasts (the worst stuff lasts but never catches fish).

I also have 4 kids and consider myself lucky that I have any time at
    all to fish.

Mostly a read only noter. I fish mainly freshwater now in search of
BASS!!!! Formerly from Cambridge, Mass. where my saltwater fishing
exploits mainly consisted of fishing for flounder in Boston Harbor with
sea worms. Now that I've mentioned Boston Harbor, you may forgive me
for fishing mostly freshwater today :^)

I finally bought my first boat this year strictly for fishing by
myself - she's a 10 ft. Lowe aluminum jon boat. This size boat is real
good for the small ponds that I fish. And, at 65 pounds she's
just right for a guy like myself who doesn't get much exercise, and
she's also one of the few car toppers that will fit on my pleasure
machine - an '89 Dodge Omni. And, in view of my lack of exercise,
she's propelled by a Minn Kota 65T rather than my rowing.

I pick up lots of good tips here, and hope they will continue.

    	4# Small Mouth (MI)

I have a 17' Ranger Fisherman Fiberglass V-Hull boat which I use from
the local river to the Big "O". I have too many rods to count and
    about 5 different tackle boxes.

I am best known as a spinnerbait fisherman. I must admit I enjoy
tossing a spinnerbait the most but my 4#12oz and 5#8oz large mouths I
have caught this year came on a rubber worm.

I'm a fisherman with diversified interests: trout, bass, bluefish, stripers,
sharks, tuna, flyfishing, chunking, metal-chucking, whatever.

My largest largemouth bass is around 4 lbs. My largest smally is about 4 lbs
(caught in Sunapee on a nightcrawler.) My largest brookie is a 3 lber. I've
got a couple big blues (18-20lbs), no keeper stripers (YET!), a 12 ft 300lb+
blue shark to my credit. Largest cod is 44 lbs.

If I weren't married, I'd probably fish about 300 days a year. As it is I
only get to fish about 40 days per year. I take a couple of weekend
camping/fishing trips per year. I usually don't allow the weather to dictate
whether I fish or not because this is New England.

I really enjoy flyfishing for trout. I tie my own flies (a great way to deal
with February and March fishing fever). Wading is enjoyable- flyfishing on
a nice stream or river with a good hatch, little wind, and declining sun takes
on an almost Zen-like quality.

I'm learning how to surfcast this year. It's really quite a different
experience from fishing from a boat. I've caught a couple of short stripers
so far this year.

I try to catch at least one new species of fish per year. Last year it was
lake trout. This year I caught my first brown trout and my first striped bass.
I hope to add my first giant bluefin tuna soon! 8^)

I have a couple of tackle boxes stuffed to the brim with lures, hooks and
other junk. I always feel I'm missing the magic lure, though. I've got about
10 rods, from a graphite 6wt flyrod to a standup 50lb class offshore rod. I
shudder to think how much it would cost to replace all of my equipment.

I would eventually like to be a charter captain, fishing for marlin and tuna
and such from the outer banks of North Carolina.

I am currently the "owner" and one of the moderators of this file. FISHING
was the first notes conference I ever participated in.

Jeff Nagle. DEC Park. Reading, England.

I've been fishing since I was a kid but only recently
taken it up on a regular basis.

At the moment course fishing holds plenty of variety for
me so I fish for Pike, Tench, Carp, Bream and Roach.

I may have to give up fishing for Carp during the day and
go night fishing for them instead.

Take Bream and Roach all the time ranging from pound up to
1.75 pounds. Hooked a small Pike (10 pounds) a couple of weeks
ago but he jumped out after I got him in the landing net and no
clutch slip and I wasn't concentrating and he snapped the trace.

Mainly fish the lake on Windsor Great Park. Its very hard to
fish there and you need to pick best swim.

    Cheers,

    Jeff.

I fish mostly for bass, but catch whatever jerks the other end...:^)
I live in Millbury, Ma. with my 375 Ranger Bass Boat (hence the
nickname). Work in Andover, Ma. as a Quality Mgr. and play wherever
there is water. I have been fishing for over 40 years and will for
another 40 provided.... I grew up on a lake in Wisconsin and from
there moved to Florida, where I caught my biggest bass 12.4 and the
biggest fish to date, a 300# + marlin off Walkers Cay in the Bahamas.

I have been in this file since it started and as Bassin Bob has said
was, with him, the creator of the first DEC Bassmasters Classic.
Which by the by, he won and I came in third. Blind luck...:^)

In the FWIW dept. I'm a life member of B.A.S.S. and enjoy a complete
collection of Bassmasters Magazines back to the 70's. I was one of
those first bass tournament fishermen back in the late 60's. Never
    won, and never cared.....:^)

I've been a freshwater fisherman all my life and tend to be a read-only
noter. The majority of my fishing time is done on small lakes and
ponds due mainly to the fact that my 11 1/2 ft Coleman Crawdad with 3HP
electric Minn Kota just can't hack large bodies like Sunapee, Winnie,
etc. I am also a member of the NH BassMasters and really enjoy fishing
with a group of people that sometimes, OK always, stretch the truth on
just about everything involved in this sport. 8-)

I do tend to drive other members of the NH BassMasters a little crazy
when I talk about my fishing technique and equipment. I use Zebco
reels, the expensive ones ($9.98- $14.98), Kmart rods, swivels, and
$1.00 per spool line from Zyla's. I do however faithfully change the
line in my reels every other year or so.

My largest largemouth was about 6lb 6oz and my monster smallmouth to
date was only about 3lbs. Estimates on weight are due to the fact that
I catch them, release them, and usually never bother to weight,
measure, photograph, or do anything else but watch them swim away to be
    caught again some other day.

    Enjoy,
    Ed-

Primarily a read-only noter, but I've made it to 3 Dec tournaments
so far. I helped found Wayside Bass in 1987, and still fish 7
Massachusetts tournaments a year with them.

I fish primarily for Bass out of a DynaTrak 196. We catch and
release almost everything (except for any really stupid trout
that are dumb enough to hit Bass lures...).	:^)

I love both fresh and salt water fishing, but don't take the
Bass boat into the salt - we usually go out on party boats in salt.

My largest LM Bass so far is 6lbs - 8 oz, which was caught a bunch
of years ago in Florida from the shore at the boat ramp before
heading out for a day of fishing. (largest LM only 4 lbs - 8 oz
here in Mass.) Largest SM Bass 3 lb - 1oz out of Winnipesaukee.

Bruce Sweet aka Capt. Codfish. I get my thrills seeing others catch
more fish than they have ever seen before. I am the proud owner of the
SWEET DREAM II a 1987 25' Grady White sailfish with a 330 horse OMC
big block. It has now got all the toys: 2 fish finders, loran, vhf,
outriggers, down riggers and a new radar. I fish the salt exclusivly
except to take my son pond fishing to learn how it is done.

I also build my own rods (for others also) and have multiple of
everything from ultralight to tuna stiks. I am going to get my
Capt. License this winter to be o-fish-al. Bottom fishing
for cod is my first love, striper fever is catching, and I
am terminal over tuna (don't have one yet). Oh, I never drive
by a school of blues, except when I am tuna fishing, anyone that
has ever spent a couple of hours sewing mackeral rigs knows
    what I mean.

    Biggest to date:
    	Cod 44lbs
        Pollock 35lbs
        Hadock 12lbs

        Blue Shark 10ft approx 250lbs
Large Mouth Bass 4lbs (opps how'd that get in there :-) )
        Pacific Salmon 17lbs (yum yum)

As of late I've been reading only. I only get a chance during lunch
to get caught up my reading, so excuse the food on the keyboard. :^)

I also belong to Wayside Bass and been with the club when it first
started. Fresh water fishing is my first love, then the salt for
once or twice a year for blues or cod.

I fish primarily out of a 15 1/2 foot Fisher Marine bass boat with
a 30 horse Johnson and one livewell. I stress one livewell, because
I'm now convinced that I need a new boat for tournament fishing with
extra room for fish. This past weekend at our Manchaug tournament
my partner and I had 10 fish in the one livewell for a total of
22 lbs 7 oz. A new record for the Fisher; miraculously we didn't
	lose any fish.

	My biggest fish to date:

LM bass (Mass): 5 lbs 2 oz	Just caught this weekend incidently at
					our Manchaug tournament.
SM bass (Mass): 4 lbs 4 oz	Weighed on a certified scale.
Walleye (Mich): 3 lbs Didn't want to lip him.
	Haddock:	7.5 lbs Tasted good.

Outside of the occasional cod and haddock I release all by fish.

other goodies. I lost count of how many rod and reel combo's I have,
and how much tackle I now own, needless to say it's way to much.

I enjoy all types of fishing but tend to fish for Bass the most. I
love tournament fishing. My biggest Bass to date is only a 4 lb 10 oz
Largemouth and 3 lb Smallmouth. I tend to favor plastic baits the
most, with worms being the best, especially the 4" finesse styles.

I've learned alot from folks in this notes file over the last few years
and am always into learning more. I've had the priviledge to meet
quite a few unique individuals through the file and the DEC tournaments
that really add some spice to fishing and always make me laugh and

I love fishing all four seasons, in the rain, sleet or snow! I
recently bought a Sea Nymph FM161 Fishing Machine and LOVE IT!
I fish both fresh and salt water with my boat.

In the spring I go for trout and salmon in the lakes and stripper in the
ocean. Caught some good size stocked trout but the bigger fish is what I
like best. Salmon fishing this year was fantastic lost quite a few
lunkers this spring - biggest being caught was 6 lbs. Also caught many,
many stripper this spring with only two just legal.

In the summer it's bass and blues. Biggest bass I caught was a 5
pounder (one is spring and one in winter). The biggest bluefish was 15
pounds this summer! What a battle!

Now comes my favorite - fall and winter fishing for those pikes and
muskies. To date, I still haven't caught or seen a tiger musky. But I
have had my fair share of pike battling with the biggest being 15.2 a
few winters ago. I am determined this year to break my 15 pound record
so you will be hearing more from me!!

it was as exciting and challenging as top water striped bass fishing
    is now.

I suppose since I subscribe to the weekly "Western Outdoor News" and

(live adventures are at about 4-6 week intervals depending on season)

My 9 year old son is finally old enough to be an active participant.

April brings some warm weather and take him and my 8 & 4 year old

    because it guarantees "catching".

The week school gets out finds us at Bullards Bar catching Kokanee
    salmon.

For summer saturday trips to the beach the family gets together
at Martins beach for some "SMELT JUMPING". No guarantees doing this.

Varios times during the summer we go fishing for crappies, sripers,
trout or bluegills in the Sierra Foothill or other Nor-Cal lakes.
We've taken my 14ft Gregor but usually party boat for shark, halibut,
kingfish (croaker) and flounder fishing in "the bay".

I love to trout fish. I used to live in Southern California where
the trout fishing is killer, and alot of So Cal fisherpeople don't
know where to go, so ask, and ye shall receive.

Trout fishing in Georgia is ok. If you like streams it's great. We
have a big river here called the Chattahooochee. It is the southeasts
best tributary for trout. But mainly, I fish for trout. Who cares,
just yell "Fish on" and the heart starts a pumpin!

I am going to get into fly fishing this year. I also deer hunt. I
just put the hunting stuff away until September. So it looks like
fishing notes and golf notes between now and September. There, that

Hi!

My name is Mark Wittgen, and I live in Toronto, Ontario.

Picked up a cane pole back in '66, been chasing them ever since.
Spent most of my youth in Southern Indiana, moved to Canada ten years ago.

I have a cottage on a river about 90 miles north of the city.
Here I fish for PIKE, Walleye, BASS and even Catfish. There is also
an excellent river nearby for trout and Salmon.

Fish usually every weekend, but with chores around the cottage and the
other half, not as much time as I like.

Catch and release is my approach, "Building for my retirement!"
BTW, I am an Account Manager for Northern Telecom.

I am staying in Canada because of the fishing, the taxes will kill you!

Do both fresh and saltwater fishing. Love them both.
My dad started me fishing while I was still in diapers and been
hooked on it (no pun intended) for over 40 years. Do a lot of
bass fishing, mostly at A1, and trout fishing in north Central
Mass. Have a canoe, an electric motor and a basement filled with
rods, reels and tackle. Drives my wife nuts.

Do both surf and bottom fishing either off the Cape or
out of Wellsfleet, Me. with a friend who has a place up there.
Try to go to Florida every other year and fish the Gulf side for
a week straight. Love it down there.

Believe in mostly catch and release - 'cept when I crave
for a nice rainbow or cod fillet. Most fun time fishing is in
Holyoke when the shad run in May up the Conn. River, or with my
	kids anytime.

Biggest fresh water:	4 lb. Largemouth out of A1
(still havn't got my *^&%$% 5 lb. yet)

Biggest salt water:	38 in. stripper out of the Cape Cod
Canal. Legal but put him back.

I've been reading this file on-and-off for a couple of years, so I
figure it's past due to sign in.

I'm a big fan of the salt. Locally I like fishing for cod, haddock,
cusk, wolffish, etc and of course bluefish in season. I've done quite a
bit of scup and tautog fishing in the past, but not so much any more.

Since I don't own a boat, I frequent the Yankee Fleet and occasionally
Hilton's in Newburyport, but my favorite is to charter with a guy in
Scituate who has a small boat (4 people max) and whose prices are
really reasonable (he has a sliding scale depending on how many go, so
you can actually go out with two people and not have it cost a
    fortune).

I have fished quite a bit in Florida out of Haulover in Miami and down
in the Keys. Still looking for my first wahoo. I actually caught a 40lb
sailfish off a party boat there.

I build my own rods -- I designed and use a 7 foot spinner which I use
for plugging bluefish which is just about my favorite -- I get a real
kick out of watching them come out of nowhere and smash a plug.

I like jigging for cod and do it most of the time, but I do better
with bait although I tend to catch smaller fish that way. I use Dacron
on my Penn 113H for party boat fishing and an 8 foot jigging rod. For
the smaller boat, I use a 7 foot graphite Daiwa rod and a Daiwa 50H
with 30lb mono for jigging cod (it's a lot easier).

I don't care what it is -- if it swims in the sea, I'll fish for it.
Maybe I'll see some of you folks on the Yankee Fleet. If anyone is
interested in putting together a charter in Scituate, let me know --
maybe we can work out a trip.

    Saltwater is where I fish most.  Occassionally freshwater in NH;
Winnipesaukee, Bow Lake, Back Lake, Whit Pond.

I have a 25-ft Renken I/O that I have outfitted for both cruising and
fishing. My first-mate's not interested in fishing, so all of the
    sport rigging is portable.

I operate out of Larry's Marina, in Amesbury MA, about 6 miles from the
    mouth of the Merrimack River.

I'll fish for almost anything: stripers, blues, mackerel, cod, haddock,
flounder, polluck, wolf fish, skate, and even crabs. I frequent Plumb
Island, the Ilses of Shoals, the top of Rockport, and occassionally I
do well right in the mouth of the river; especially when mackerel or
    blues are running.

I have no record catches, but I always have fun; fish, or no fish.
Dad & I caught 174 flounder, averaging 1 - 3 pounds one sunny June day
in 1986. Spent the entire weekend skinning and filleting for the
freezer, and ate like kings all winter.

But, even when not fishing, I experience a level of serenity off shore
that I can't attain on land, and occassionally go out just to relax.
No fishing, no destination, no hurry, no nothin'! Just me and God.

If you get in the area, give us a call on VHF Channel 16. Ask for
    "Helen Highwater."

reading their thoughts here and like one of the other guys said, it's

Praise the Lord for the privledge of havin' this fantastic file at
your fingertips my friends, it's truly one of Digitals best kept
    secrets!
I live and have fished in Canada for over 30 years and have caught
about everything there is to catch in our cool clear waters and have
released at least 90% of those fish. I fish for the love of it! I'm a

    Hi Folks,
I fish only salt water over here in Scotland although I have
fished in several contries. I have my own boat which is 14 feet with
a 40hp Yamaha. A lot of the fishing that I do is competitive and this
year I have been chosen to fish for the Scotland international team
    against England, Ireland and Wales.
We fish for many different type of fish both from the boat and shore.
My number one type of fishing is Tope fishing from the boat. These are
a small shark that fight very hard. They average about 30lb but do grow

Spend most of my time on the water looking for salmon and trout.
    Enjoy smallmouth fishing as well.
Release most - all I keep are eaten.
Spend quite a bit of time in rivers if the water's right - the
fishing pole or tip-ups are always in the car with me.

Hi!

I fish mostly for trout, mostly from shore or wading. Although, I'm not averse
to hitching a ride on a friend's boat now & then. I like my St. Croix Ultra-
Light outfit w/ artificials & live bait.

My largest catch is 33" 14lb 7oz steelhead caught Oneida NY during last
October's Salmon run. It should be arriving home from the taxidermist soon.

I work in the RCH facility in Rocky Hill , CT in Field/Customer/Digital/MVS
Service.

    Hi my names Bill Rawnsley
          work ZKO
          Live in Merrimack, NH
Also own a home on LOng Pond in Pelham, NH.

Today is my first day reading the fishing notes files and like others
have already said, I feel like I already know quite a few of the people
here. Some I do that are from ZKO, but I didn't know they were
    fishermen.

Like I said I own a house on Long Pond and the boats there are:

18' tri hull w/115 horse Merc-this is only for water sking.

14' crawdad, best bass boat I've ever owned.

         12' Old Town canoe

2 paddle boats, these are for when I want exercise while fishing.

Haven't gone fishing as much as I'd like, work seems to always get
in the way. I fish mainly for bass but will take anything that bites
the hook. I believe in and have taught my 4 boys, CATCH AND RELEASE.
My #2 son (23 yrs old) in one week on the lake caught a 3lber, 3 1/2,
4 1/2, 5 lber and 5,4 lber. Let them all go, made me feel great. He
did learn something I taught him.

Anyone in ZKO or around here want to drop a few rubber worms some
    weekend, call me DTN 381-1010.

Saltwater is were I do all my fishing. I have done most of my fishing
on the N.J. Shore but am now fishing the Merrimack/Newburyport area.

Currently I am having a new boat built, it is a 27' Eastern (lobster
boat style) rigged strickly for fishing. I have already obtained a
slip for next year which is going to be out of Larry's Marine in
Amesbury, Ma.. Next spring if you are on the Merrimack River just give
me a yell, boats name is JOY III.

I fish for just about anything that swims in saltwater so I will
probably see most of the noters that fish in the Merrimack area.

    Hi ya'll,

I'm new to DEC and am quite a fishing enthusiest.(run the gammit on
species) I recently joined Team Bass Anglers of Massachusetts, and
have been getting smoked in the tournaments all year.

I was wondering if there is still a Bass Notesfile like I saw a note
on. I tried Deming::Bass_fishing and was unable to access it.

I would appreciate any pointers to helpful Bass information that could
help me and my partner stop the embarisment!!!!!

Feel free to send mail to Meta::Graham if you think you can help.

    Thanks

Hint: Be careful about saying things like "getting smoked

    Hi,

My name is Doug Kidd and I work in SNA and SNL supporting VMS and UNIX
    Factory Installed Software (FIS) systems.

I am very much a novice fisherman having only been "hooked" about nine
months ago. Prior to that I fished maybe once a year. Now nothing else
    really matters.

My favorite style is surf closely followed by rock fishing then
estuary. I have easy access (1/2 hour drive) to all these venues, but
not to good freshwater fishing. I am keen to try my hand at Trout, Bass
and Yellow-belly, but this will take a little longer (about 4 hours).

If anybody wants info on Aussie fish or fishing, feel free to ask or
reach me at SNLV01::KIDDDOUG and I'll give it my best shot.

    Regards,

thought I'd say howdy since I've been reading this conf. for a year
but missed the "hey day". Things are slow in here now, i'm sure due to
    TFSO's.

contract tech writer since being TFSO'd last year after almost 20 years
at DEC. Work now at CX03 in Colorado Spgs for MCS fault management
    team.

Been fishing all my life. My dad was 30 years in the Air Force and we
fished in almost every state and country he was stationed in.

I fish for Colorado trout mainly nowadays and not even the big ones. I
find the best times are on a small high altitude stream or beaver pond
where I'm trying to outsmart mainly brookies, but bows and browns are
plentiful also. A cutt sneaks in occasionally too. Early Spring (like
soon!) my dad and I head east to the Colorado prarie lakes for
blue and channel cats, crappie, white bass and the occasional other
warm water fishes like drum..not too many places that I know of have
    smallies or bigmouths.

Just fished for the first time this year yesterday on teh South Platte
RIver out of Lake George COlo.

    Hi All

This is my first time in these notes so I'd just like to say hello
to you all, ofcourse only special people are allowed in here as I'm
sure no matter where in the world your all from you will all have
the one thing in common, I've never met an unsocialable fisherman
yet and I hope I never do, I've just started fishing again after a very
long spell out of the sport and I'm truely amazed at how its changed
over the years, the things you can get it beats the old cane rod and
bread when we were kids, if there are any freshwater fishermen in here
that would like to bring me up to date with tips that will take years
to learn the hard way I would be greatfull.

I shall carry on reading all the notes now but in the mean time good
    fishing to you all.

    Regards

    Mike.

    Hi Folks,,,,

Does anyone know if places like Comet,,,,Fort Pond or Lake Whalom
have been stocked for the spring or if they're open enough to
       fish yet??

I also heard the Ma fishing license is 35.00 this year??

                                            Thanks,,,,,,,,,Vic

    Vic,

All three have been stocked. In fact I was out on Fort Pond two weeks
ago. My buddy and I got 11 (catch and release). Some real nice sized
    Rainbows (for around here anyways).

Unfortunately, all three are frozen around the shoreline. Well, I'm not
    quite sure about Whalom!!!!

Yes, the licenses are expensive. I buy a sporting so not sure what just
    a fishing cost......

Moved to Ottawa, Ontario area in '88. I am originally a Newfie and
spend the majority of my childhood on the salt water with my dad
jigging cod, squid, mackrel, and had my hands into just about anything
else that would keep me busy. Most of my relatives were commercial
    fisherman as well.
Newfoundland doesn't have anywhere near the variety of fresh water fish
as does the mainland. Various species of trout and salmon are the
freshwater fishermans staple down that way.
Last summer was my first year dipping a hook into fresh water since I
was a kid and I was intantly hooked- No pun intended...This Bass
fishing is a blast, and getting a pike or muskie smashing a top water is a
    rush all of it's own!
I am very excited about getting on the water this spring. I've been
doing a lot of reading and shopping for tackle is a topic all on it's
    own...

You might want to poke into the BIGQ::BASSFISHING notes conference
too if you're specializing in bass. Most of the good information that WAS in
there was flushed along with all the "trash talk" when the conference went
public last year, but the noters are generally very knowledgeable...
