13.1Massabesic Lake?GEMVAX::JOHNHCFri Feb 14 1992 11:0110
    Can anybody tell me anything about Massabesic Lake?

    According to the tourist map I was just perusing, it is the lake that
    I-93 passes by, right near Manchester.

    Anybody been there? How deep is it? How developed? What kind of fish?

    Thanks.

13.2pretty lake, some loons too DONMAC::MACINTYRETerminal AnglerFri Feb 14 1992 12:1415
    It's Manchester's watersupply. Boating is allowed but not swimming or
    even wading. People have been fined for wading around in the water
    while loading boats.

    I can't recall how deep it is, a wild guess would be 60-70'. It has
    all the typical warm water species. It used to be a designated trout
    pond but I don't think it's been stocked in years (don't know for
    sure).

    Fairly developed along some shores, totally undeveloped on others. Part
    of the lake (near the pumping station) is 'off limits'.

    Lots of sail boats (no water skiers).

13.3a bit more on MassabesicNECVAX::HUTCHINSONFri Feb 14 1992 13:2010
    Adding to .2..

    Good iceboating, lots of snowmobiles in the winter, some
    icefisherpersons.

    Small, planing sailboats are not allowed - ones that commonly flip
    like Lasers, and Sunfish.

    Regattas every weekend all summer (sailing races).
13.4So, how's the water? Look's cold. 8))CUPMK::T_THEOIt's OK, I'm with the band.Tue Feb 18 1992 10:1114

    Massabesic is beautiful for floating around, but I haven't found
    any really productive areas. I live on the west side of the lake
    where they draw water from and most of it is posted.

    There are a couple of remote coves that I can access through
    Camp Carpenter (a Boy Scout camp off the road I live on). They're
    quite a trek through the woods, but there's absolutely NO traffic.
    Although I did stumble upon a naked couple once... they were dippin'
    and I recall giving them quite a start.

      Note 13.1
    		Lake Massabesic , Manchester N.H.
    	Large mouth Bass. We took the canoe two weeks ago
    	and caught a some nice ones. I threw 2 back then
    	caught a nice 7 pounder## . He was towing us into
    	the grass. There are bigger fish in there ,always
    	better early or late in the evening in my case.
    		I'm hooked now.

    I need to investigate the health/diversity of the mussel population in
    that pond in the very near future.

    Any help very much appreciated.

    Thanks.
