1681.0. "C/L TO R/C" by CSLALL::ONEILL () Mon Nov 06 1995 11:31

    I notice in model aviation, quite a few good looking planes
    in the control line aerobatics section and was wondering,has anyone
    ever tried converting these planes to r/c. I know I've seen r/c
    kit converted to control line, but how about the reverse?

Depends on the kit. Some of them have asymetrical wing planforms. I was
noticing that the C/L Stunt ships seem to have taken on a pattern ship
appearance.

At the Virginia Beach show I was surprised to see little right thrust and
rudder offset on the ships. They do it all with leadout line position which is
adjustible. Technology is everywhere.

    Pardon my ignorance but what's "asymetrical wing" and are you saying
    these don't make good r/c planes because of it?

The inboard/outboard (left and right) panels can have different areas. This
was used in some cases to force the lines to remain tight. On tapered wings
this isn't easy to compensate for (since you may have a different number of
ribs from side to side)
