1614.0. "Servo cables too long / EMI ?" by VAXRIO::VEIGA () Mon Jul 18 1994 16:01

Hi Folks,

I am building a Tow plane with a 23cc gas engine (Spark plug ),I am considering
to use two servos for each wing to control alerons and flaps, I am very concern
about the distance of the servo wires to the receiver to cause interference
problems.

Engine: Tartan 23cc gas with CDI ( shielded spark plug cable).

Radio: Futaba FM 6 channel (6NFK).

Servos: Futaba Standart S148 and 1/4 scale S134.

Questions:
---------
- How far can I install the servos without cousing interference (EMI) ?

- What can I do to prevent EMI ?

- Do I have to use any kind of filter on the servo cables ?

Thanks a lot, any hints will be very usefull,

Ricardo Veiga.

1614.1It Can Be Done!ELMAGO::RMOUSERRON MOUSER, ABO/B3,552-2152Tue Jul 19 1994 14:1518
    Greetings,

    One of my flying buddies ( a fellow Deccie until December when ABO
    closes) has two planes, A giant foam MIG27 Flogger and a Pilatus
    Porter that have servo leads that are 4 feet long. There is NO
    filtering or decoupling of any kind on either.

    The only requirement is that you use a '91 or after radio. That
    was the message we got before we tried this. We have had zero pro-
    blems with both planes for several years. However, both planes run
    on glow engines, not spark ignition.

    Maybe one of the spark experts can elaborate. We have had the radio
    on with car engines next to it with no problems.

    Good luck,

    Ron
