1520.0. "Fun Fly Rules?" by BAHTAT::EATON_N (Nigel Eaton) Wed May 05 1993 06:11

One of the long standing members of our club died a while back, and his family
have provided a trophy in his memory. (Nice idea). The contest will be a fun fly
type event.

Only snag is, none of us can find a set of rules for a fun fly, and we want the
event to be a good one! Has anyone organised such an event, and have you any
example rules for some manouevers?

Cheers!

Nigel.

I'm not sure of any 'rules' for a fun-fly exist. It seems to me you
    could probably contact the AMA.

I have never put together a fun-fly of any magnitude, however I have
attended many of them. I have just returned from a very large event
this past weekend. It was held in Greenville, South Carolina and
was a 4 day event. (Quite long.) We had over 262 registered pilots
and over 300 airplanes present. It was limited to giant scale only
and you had to be AMA to fly and to get in. In other words, it was
NOT open to the public. This is because it is on a private estate
owned by one of the local IMAA Chapter members.

THe only rules they had were around freq. control and number of planes
flying at a time, five. Any manuevers were allowed as long as there
were done over the flying area, i.e. NOT the spectators. Altitude
was kept below 500 ft. since there was a local airport about 5 miles
away. All airplanes had to be safety inspected by an inspector,
usually someone who was in the sponsoring IMAA chapter.

We had some great pilots there. You might recognize some of their
names, Bubba Spivey, who ownes Lanier R/C, Stinger Wallace, who flies
pylon at Madera, Don Lowe, AMA President, Eric Dern, who flew his 17
ft. wingspan Diablo, and others. WE alos had a pilot who flew two
planes at once, one with his feet, the other with his hands. Quite
    interesting.

Well, that's my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
