I received a REAL THING model for my birthday in September. I quickly assembled it and got to the flying field just before winter set in. I was unable to get it to fly. I received it with the suggested .10 engine. However it couldn't even taxi on short grass. I tried hand launching it but that resulted in a stall and a crash. Over the winter I bought a .15 engine and fixed the crash damage. I went to the field this weekend and this time the plane would taxi and even start to get airborn but then it roled to the right crashed. I tried this several times but am still unable to get it to fly. Has anyone had and sucess with this plane ? I would hate give up on it but there just doesn't seem to be any other alternative. Larry

I think you should get an experienced flyer to trim that doggie out for you. I have paid dearly for not observing that rule 100 percent. As to the plane, I have the original article from RCM and I know it has a good reputation for flyability despite its looks. You do know how to fly, don't you--this plane is not a trainer, or not by modern standards anyway.

I have had pleanty of experience flying smaller planes i.e. the Birdie 10 and the Hobby Shack Citabria. The birdie 10 I placed on a .15 the Citabria it said 10-15-25, I placed on a .15 The small planes with the small engines you really have to be carefull. The bottom line in my opinion that they are not worth it and can't believe I spent so much time trying to make a bad situation work. The flight characteristics leave something to be desired and often they are underpowered. I took my OS .15 and placed in on a Airtronics eclipse and am having a blast. The .15 hauls it up until it becomes a spec, I shut off the engine and glide it down... My two cents, Doug

RE -1 Thank you I thought it was just me. I purchased an ELECTRIC STICK and could not make it fly. It crashed so many times I had to finally retire it witout ever getting it to fly. Then this real thing problem, I think I'll continue to try and make it fly ( I'v got a lot of time in it ) as long as the plane can be glued back into shape. Larry |
