Subject: Fiberglass Fuselages & Vacuum Forming

Viking Models, U.S.A. is a cottage industry specailizing in fiberglass
fuselages and vacuum forming. All orders are worked on an individual
basis and there is no high volume. In this way, they feel that they
cam mainatin a high quality control of each fiberglass fuse and formed
    producy that they produce.

Their inventory includes scale, thermal and slope glider fuses.

Best time to call is between 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Centeral Time.

A description of their current products (as of 4/6/93) are described
    below:

Stiletto - designed by Benard Henwood, England

This fuselage is the product of approximately 7 years of research and
development with the end product being what is available today. It is
designed to take a heat shrink wrapped battery pack in the nose, with
the standard size receiver, on/off switch and 3 standard size servos in
tandem. The overall length of this fuse, from nose to rudder post is
49 inches. Suggested maximum wing cord is 10 inches. The Stiletto
comes in two versions. These two fuselages are the same, but one has a
bolt-on wing and the other is a plug-in wing type. The plug-in wing
type fuse requires a bit of work on the builders part to build a wing
fillet, bit it is designed so that it can accept any wing section of
optimum size. Also, there is a small removable hatch over the top
center of the wing to make it easier to plug in ailerons and flaps.
Instructions for fillet building are included with the plug-in wing
version of the Stiletto fuselage. No plans are available, but several
    3-views are included.

    Special Edition Fuse

With its European styling, the Special Edition was designed with the
competition flyer in mind. The Special Edition features a pull off
nose cone, a bolt-on wing and is reinforced with Kevlar. With its
versatility, this fuse will also accept a conventional or "T-type"
stablizer. This 54 inch long fuse will accomodate a 9.625 inch wing
cord, and there is more than enough room to install an extral large
battery pack, any number of servos, plus a ballast box. No plans are
available. Please see R/C Soaring Digest, October, 1991, page 20 for one

Raven 3M Fuse - by Mike Smart, England

The Raven 3M is the latest in the Raven family. This one is slightly
different with its unique "Gull Wing" design, but if you do not prefer
this tye wing, you can use a straight or ployhedral type wing. These
options are covered in the complete sets of building instructions and
plans which with the 51" fuselage. Although the plans show the fuse
with a plywood biult-up type construction, Mike has given Viking Models
permissin to reproduce this fuse in epoxy and fiberglass. This epoxy
fiberglass fuse is a bit narrower than what is shown on the plans,
however there is ample room to accomodate any standard size radio and
    servos.

    Oden Fuse

This fuselage is 51 inches long. For the scratch builder this is the
ideal fuselage to work with. With its clean lines and clear canopy,
for that scale-like appearance you can design your own dream come true.
The Oden fuse is large enough to install any standared size radio
    equipment. The molded-in wing root is a S3021 profile, with a 10.25
inch wing cord. This will give the builder ample room to install servos
into the wing if it is so disired. No palns are available.

1512.1Special Edition ReviewMISFIT::BLUMMon Apr 26 1993 12:3228
My father received his "Special Edition" fuselage from Jerry Slates
last week and I had a chance to look it over.

It is very nice. Extensive use of kevlar results in an incredibly
stiff structure with a nice narrow boom. The slip on nosecone fits
perfectly. The wing area has saddles molded in. All-in-all a very
    stiff, strong, low drag design:

                      Length - 54"
                      Root Chord width - 9.625"
Weight - 13.5 oz.(weighed on my postal scale)
                      Recommended wingspan - 100"-130"
                      Stab- + or T
                      Cost - $85

This would be an ideal platform for any 2.5 - 3.5 meter glider, it
certainly has the strength for SMT/F3B applications.

I am thinking of using one with an Astro 60 FAI with 112" RG15 wing.

My father's will be an F3J type ship using SD7037 or SD7032 with a
    T tail.

                                                                  Jim
