1394.0. "Hand launch design questions." by RANGER::PITONIAK () Fri Dec 13 1991 12:35
Greetings,
I am planning to design a hand launch which uses a
fiberglass, or graphite tail boom, and a full flying stab.
The goal will be to get a easily built/ easily REPAIRED
glider (guess why thats a goal). I also plan to use the
preditor wing.
The question I have is has anyone seen a design, or have any
ideas on the best way to mate the boom to the fuselage?
I thought that by modifying the preditor fuselage to
end behind the wing, and have a few formers which would accept
the boom, but I am afraid that would be too heavy. I have also
seen a glider design in which the fuselage was a laminate
about 1/4 inch in width, and the servo's/ radio sat in holes
cut out of it. This design looks interesting, except that
I cant think of a way to design a wing cradle. Also, it
would probably require some sort of removable pod to cover
and protect the radio (possible out of the fiberglass
molds that Jim Reith is experimenting with).
Has anyone seen a design that is similar, and that I could
get some Ideas from? As I said the goal would be to
have an easily repairable design.
Thanks for any inputs/suggestions.
regards,
mike
