1386.0. "Putting the Legend on a diet!" by MR4DEC::ANKER (Anker Berg-Sonne) Fri Nov 22 1991 16:05

                Tuesday morning I ordered a new Legend kit. Not because
        my current legend is dead, but because there are a number of
        changes I want to make, and also because I want to have a backup
        ship for next years ESL campaign. Its the old ship that's going
        to be the backup, of course.

                The changes I want to make focus in two areas. The first
        is to correct a number of building mistakes made on the first
        ship, the other to make a number of modifications that I believe
        will improve the ship.

                In the building mistake department i made a majot booboo
        with the ailerons and flaps. The are built together with the
        wing panels and then separated. I did the building together part
        too literally. They were inseparably glued together and cutting
        that joint became a mess.

                The improvelemts are all in the area of improving the
        weight. I believe its relatively easy to reduce the weight by 10
        oz real easy by moving the rudder and elevator servos ahead of
        the receiver, moving the aileron and flap servos in front of the
        spar, and seriously working on weight reducing the fin assembly.
        Finally, I'll try to take a little more care reducing flex in the
        wing and keeping it true to the airfoil.

1386.1Legend vs. FalconUSRCV2::BLUMJMon Nov 25 1991 09:4813
    Anker,

         I am curious why nobody in our conference has built a Falcon
    880. Since the Legend and the Falcon are comparably priced why has
    everyone shyed away from it? Its contest record in capable hands is
    tremendous. The only reason I can think of is people do not like
    working with foam wings. Please don't take this wrong, I am not
    questioning your decision to build a Legend, rather I am just curious
    why people are staying away from the Falcon.

                                                        Regards,

                                                        Jim

        Re:                      <<< Note 1386.1 by USRCV2::BLUMJ >>>

        Jim,

                My original decision was based upon the built up wing
        structure. For some reason I absolutely love building built up
        wings and I'm still not comfortable with foam. Also, the Falcon
        seems to have done well on the West Coast, but we have only seen
        a few over here.

                Just to show I'm not prejudiced, I'm going to ask Santa
        for a Falcon 600 to replace the Easy Eagle I busted.
