I'm back into the RC notes again as a contributor...(a lot of work has been going through our hands recently here in Valbonne in the South of France). I was in the Boston area recently and picked up a Sig 1/4 J3 Cub. Tks again Kay for the address. There is a topic on the Sig J3 but I need some specific information which is not in the responses. I am looking to put a deal of detail into the Cub and have identified some companies that manufacture cowl, Cockpit interiors, inboard silencer etc. namely AVCO Model Supplies for Cockpit and engine details and J'Tec for Muffler. Engine is the Enya '90. Any opinions on this pse. I also would prefer made up struts and strut supports if they can be found. I shall be in San Francisco at the end of this month and am hoping that someone in the area can point me to a supplier who might have these or better items on their shelves (I don't have time to mail order - only three days). tks for the help George Frost

1347.1 | T&D Fiberglass Cowls & Slatteroe Gears | AKRON::RATASKI | Veni, Vidi, Vomui | Tue Aug 20 1991 12:05 | 18 |
As far as cowls... T&D Fiberglass in Michigan makes a good fiberglass cowl with engine detail molded into it. Their cowls are top-notch. The down side is that they do mail-order only. I can get you an address and price if you wish. Bob Slatteroe (again in Michigan) makes a very good heavy duty landing gear for the J-3. It is made out of heavy (1/4") duty music wire that has been brazed. It also has real working bungees. I have one of his landing gears for my 1/3 Flybaby bipe. I'm impressed and will be ordering one of his gears for the Sig 1/4 J-3 that is on the shelf. Again I can get you address and price if you wish since he deals only mailorder. I would be intrested in hearing about your impressions of the Avco cockpit details for my own J-3. -TomR-

Tom, tks for the reply. Yes please for the addresses (both). I am not too happy about mail order because here in France it is a real hassle to import small packages directly from the supplier or manufacturer. Personal packages are ok but the companies in the USA are unwilling to label them personal gift....quite understandably. We pay up to 200% on 'imports' so you can see why I am somewhat reticent on this. As soon as I get closer to the cockpits I shall update this note. regards George Frost

Rt. 1 Box 530 Goodview, VA 24095 (703) 890-6017 $1.00 US for catalog Sig 1/4 J3 Cub with engine $23.00 Fiberglass Specialties T&D 38624 Mt. Kisco Sterling Heights, MI 48310 (313) 978-2512 $1.00 for catalog $2.00 for catalog outside US SIG 1/4 J3 Cub with engine $30.95 SIG 1/4 J3 Cub without engine $22.95 SIG 1/4 J3 Cub fenders $10.95 BTW I have gotten fiberglass parts from both of the above. I prefer Fiberglass Specialties since the glassing seems to be much nicer and lighter in weight. The glass is extremely smooth and is white in color. Fiberglass masters is lower in price and the glass is blue-green in color and semi-transparent.It seems also heavier. I also get to see what I buy with Fiberglass Specialties since they are always at the Toledo show. -TomR-
