    First, Sig 1/4 scale Piper Cub

    1. Has anyone built and flown this kit?

    2. Can a .60 be used for the power plant?

    3. Can this kit be used as a trainer? My past experience has bee with
       gliders only.

    4. Any helpful hints or suggestions will be appreciated.

    I look forward to hearing from you "olep time" pros.

    Regards,

    Ollie

1237.1.60 marginalWMOIS::DA_WEIERWings are just a place to hang AileronsFri Aug 17 1990 16:537

         I have not owned or flown a 1/4 scale cub, but I have seen 2
      of them fly. One had a .60 2 stroke, and the other one (Kevin Ladd's)
      had a SuperTiger 2500 installed. The .60 was very marginal, but it
      could have just been that particular engine which wasn't running very
      well. The 2500 flew the plane great with more than enough power to
      play around with or get you out of trouble.
1237.2.60 not enough (for me)ROCK::KLADDhl02-3/c11 225-7316Fri Aug 17 1990 19:0113
    i flew a balsa usa 1/4 scale cub for a season with a st2500 as
    previously mentioned. had a lot of fun with that plane till i
    got shot down. for me a .60 is too small and i'd never consider
    it. on the other hand a st2500 (1.5) is probably just as
    ridiculous. however i figure you can always throttle back or
    setup the engine to not run full throttle. a st2000 or 2500 is
    half the price of a 1.20 4-stroke and turns a bigger (scale)
    prop and, to me, sounds just as good when pulling a cub along at
    3k rpms.

    as for using it as a trainer, i dunno. its big and slow and stable
    so mistakes would probably be fewer... but if you do crash, big
    planes can really splash...
1237.3Balsa USA Cub CUTCHZ::VOSSTue Aug 28 1990 10:346
I am in the process of completing a USA CUB. I am going to install a ZENOA G23
Gas engine. The G23 is 1.3 cubes and provides the economy of auto fuel. I also
have a set of floats in the work. The G23 is $184 dollars + you will need a
new muffler that saves space in the nose so you don't need much surgery.
Speaking of nose, I threw away the cowl that came with the kit and ordered a
cowl with engine from Fiberglass Masters - very nice!
1237.4O.S. 91 surpass!JUPITR::PERCUOCOMon Sep 17 1990 17:147
    A friend of mine built the 1/4 scale, clipped wing, SIG cub
    and put and O.S. 91 surpass with a 16x? prop on it. He flew
    it for the first time this past weekend! Boy, does it fly
    scale like! It's a real floater and sounds great!!! The surpass
    is a perfect engine for this plane!
