493.0. "RC10 vs. ULTIMA" by BPOV09::LAMPROS (Bill Lampros) Sun Mar 20 1988 18:05

    Hi,
          I am new to the r/c notes file and don't know much about the
    r/c car that my son is thinking of buying. I have gone through the
    note files and have seen some disscussions but have the following
    questions: My son is thinking of buying either the RC10 or the
    Ultima.

    1. What are the basic differences?
    2. He has priced the rc10 for $130 and the Ultima for $135. Are
    these good prices. Can he do better and where?

                                                    Thanks,
                                                            Bill Lampros

493.1Don't forget the Fox and Falcon!NORDIC::COLBURNMon Mar 21 1988 05:3419
    Hi Bill,

       Your son should also consider the Tamiya Fox.It goes for about
    $125-145 depending on where you see it.It is an excellent kit and
    is a competitive racer right out of the box.I raced last year in
    the stock class of the local club with a Fox,and in races against
    all types of other kits(RC10s,Kyoshos),the Fox was always in the
    fight.

       Another car your son should look at is the Tamiya Falcon.This
    car is only around $95,and they too are competitive in stock races.

       The prices for both the RC10 and Ultima are misleading because
    much is needed to make these kits complete for racing.

       Hope this helps,if you have anymore questions send me mail.

493.2spare parts availability3D::COMINSMon Mar 21 1988 09:1110
    Consider the availability of spare parts in your purchase decision.
    If you have a couple of hobby shops near you check them out and
    ask them about thier inventory of spare parts for the cars you
    interested in. When things break (and they will break) it is no
    fun to wait for parts on order especially with the good weather
    coming up.

493.3Popularity --> Plentiful PartsCTHULU::YERAZUNISHiding from the Turing PoliceMon Mar 21 1988 13:128
    Popularity of a car is worth watching, simply because:

       The popular cars have the most complete lines of aftermarket
       replacement and hop-up parts.

    Simple marketing; nobody produces aftermarket racing parts for a
    car that only sold two hundred units.

493.4Go for it...DESENG::ORLANDOMon Mar 28 1988 13:4110

    	Always keep one thing in mind, in respect to performance and
    reliability only the RC10 and ULTIMA have been WORLD CHAMPIONS.
    These kits although being priced a little higher than most other cars
    will offer the utmost level of performance and endurance of any radio
    control car. They are the de-facto standard of excellence for any
    serious amateur or professional racer. Either one would make a
    wise choice.

493.5Not unless Showroom Stock :-)CTHULU::YERAZUNISHiding from the Turing PoliceMon Mar 28 1988 17:474
    The cars that win world championships often have precious few parts
    from the "original" kit. Most of the winning cars are mostly
    aftermarket/custom parts, not originals.

Hello,

My brother has a RC10T and this is real fun and fast.
We have a local track so my brother uses this car for competition.

But he wants to have also a RC10, now I want to know the price of the RC10 in
the UK.
I live in Holland, but I will go for holliday to south-England. And if the RC10
is much cheaper in the UK as in Holland I will buy a RC10 in the UK.

Thanks for any information,

/-/	Henk.
