2048.1 | allergic to cold and exercise | UNIFIX::FRENCH | Bill French 381-1859 | Fri Apr 25 1997 07:03 | 9 |
| I have a friend and a daughter who have exhibited both of these.
A lot of people are allergic to the cold. Also, exercise will bring
on symptoms such as you describe. I think the reaction to exercise
will often subside if you keep it up. I know my answers aren't
really definitive but what you speak of I have heard of several
times before.

| Do you wear anything special when you exercise that you do not wear at
any other time?

| No I don't wear anything different when I exercise. I will wear shorts
or sweatpants or etc...I could wear those things when I wasn't
exercising and be fine.
Is there anything I can do?

2048.4 | I call it insane itching | 18824::CARBONEAU | absurdly independent | Fri Apr 25 1997 12:24 | 13 |
| I get that too, and so does my son, but I never heard of anyone else
with this problem. My observation has been that it is definately
related to exertion in cool/cold temperatures. I haven't noticed any
fabric correlation, but any contact to the skin, pressure, or rubbing
causes the itching to increase. Scratching makes it excruciating.
Also, the parts of my legs that itch seem to be the parts that, uh,
store the most fat.
I've never found anything that helps other that stopping moving, and
getting warm. If I just lay my warm hand against the cold skin while at
rest, it helps too.

In that case heat urticaria (heat rash) may be the problem. Check with
your doctor. One solution is of course, avoid strenuous exercise.

2048.6 | itchiness when exercising | DAGWUD::ONEILL | | Tue May 13 1997 08:21 | 7 |
| FWIW, I too suffer itchiness (only on my thighs (front, inside, and
back)) when first walking briskly in cold or cool weather. And, I too
found that the itchiness disappeared as my body warmed up. My former
race walking partner suffered the same phenomenon, thus, I don't think
its serious, just annoying.
