Zestril (lisinoprol) is an ACE inhibitor. It's used to
treat HTN, acute MI's and heart failure.
The drug causes a decreased vasopressor activity and
decreased aldosterone secretion. It should NOT be used by anyone
    that is pregnant.

    generic name: lisinopril

    BRAND name: ZESTRIL

DRUG CLASS: Lisinopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor or
ACE inhibitor. When this enzyme is blocked by lisinopril the
angiotensin in our body cannot be converted into an active form.
Angiotensin constricts blood vessels and elevates blood pressure.
    Lisinopril lowers blood pressure.

Interestingly, this drug and others of this class were developed from
the venom of a poisonous Brazilian snake. This class of drugs are used
for blood pressure control and congestive heart failure.

    PRESCRIPTION: Yes.

    GENERIC: No.

    PREPARATIONS: 5mg, 10mg, 20mg, and 40mg oral tablets.

    STORAGE: Store in a dry place at 15-30 degrees C (59-86 F).

PRESCRIBED FOR: Lisinopril is used for the control of elevated blood
    pressure and heart failure.

PROPER USE: Lisinopril should be taken at doses specifically directed
by the physician. Lisinopril can be taken with or without food.
Lisinopril should be taken the same time each day to maintain proper
blood levels. Lisinopril should not be taken within two hours of taking
an antacid. Lisinopril is often tapered when discontinuing.

PRECAUTIONS: First doses of lisinopril or any ACE inhibitor should be
taken with observation. Lisinopril is stopped if feelings of swelling
of the face, lips, tongue or throat. Lisinopril is known to cause
"allergic" reactions. First doses can cause dizziness. Lisinopril
should not be taken while pregnant. Consult your pharmacist for
    additional drug interactions.

SIDE EFFECTS: An uncommon but dangerous side effect is a drop in the
white blood cells which fight infection. Cough is a known side effect
of this drug.. Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) and hives
    occasionally occur.

Lisinopril can make kidney functions worse and every person taking this
medication should have their kidney function monitored. This medication
can rarely cause nausea, headaches, anxiety, insomnia, drowsiness,
nasal congestion and sexual dysfunction. In general potassium
supplementation should be avoided. Diuretics that preserve potassium,
like DYAZIDE, can elevate your potassium to dangerous levels while
    taking lisinopril.
