| It takes 3-6 months to test positive for the HIV virus from the time
you contacted it. You could have contracted it and been tested 5 months
later and the results could be negative. Meanwhile you actually have
the HIV virus. So they say that 6 months+ is a good amount of time.
If you're not tested or tested too early and you don't realize that you
have HIV it can take a good 7 years+ for symptons to show up. By then
you're treatment wouldn't be nearly as affective if you'd gotten
treatment earlier.
At this time now they have found a new combonation of drugs that they
call a cocktail. When put together they bring your cell count back up
and it's ALMOST like living w/out HIV. You still couldn't have children
w/out HIV or anything like that but you will live. Of course there's a
downfall; some people cannot tolerate this cocktail even if it means
saving their lives. If you've been on AZT in the past it's harder for
these drugs to work. They say it's best used on a newly infected white
male.
There was a man who was on his death bed w/ AIDS ready to die. His cell
count dropped to almost nothing(I think it was 2!)he couldn't eat, open
wounds, etc. All he wanted was a Isuzu Rodeo. Prepared to die he
received a note from his doctor stating at most he had 3 weeks to live
went to his insurance agency and took his ins. money.
He then went for his regular checkup and his doctor as his last hope
gave him the new cocktail of drugs. All of a sudden his T-cell count
flew up to a normal count he could eat, he had energy, he could go out
running. He then faced the greatest fear ever in his fight w/
AIDS;living. Nevertheless his Isuzu was sold. He also ran the Marathon
this year!
