What do others think about the TEXAS track???????? There were alot of complaints from drivers about the track. Rusty said a total rebuid is required. (Although during track testing some months back he really talked it up ) Several complained about only one grove. I have mixed feelings about defending the track because it had come down to TEXAS or St Louis on where Bruton would build the track. After an announcement of a 1.5 mile oval to be built 100 miles from St Louis Bruton went to Ft Worth. Later it was discoved that the press announcement was a fake put on but a bunch of Perot folks to try and get Bruton to go the Ft Worth. I guess it worked. We will have a new 1.25 mile track but it will be nothing like the facility that was built in Texas. Oh! Well! enough of what might have been. Back to my question.... From what I could see from the satellite feed, It appeared that most teams tried to set up the cars like other Bruton Smith tracks and they guessed WAY WRONG. Then with the rain and lack of track time, it looked like a bunch of what is supposed to be the worlds best drivers made some very rookie mistakes. I really like DW . But! what he did on the first lap was really stupid and no ones fault but his own. Andretti did the same thing a few years ago and they all jumped his bones for it. The BUSCH guys ran a great race on Sat. I didnt see anything out of the norm for them. They seemed to lay back and let the track come to them. I'm sure Jeff Burton likes TEXAS just fine!

Like all new tracks, bugs have to be worked out. Smith will get it done. 10 cautions for a 1.5 mile track is a bit much, but a total re-construction I don't think is needed. BOB Bahre you listening???? Your entering your fifth year of WC races and still no passing. :*) CJ

I kinda like the racetrack. I know that it aint what a lot of purists and/or drivers like but as a race, I thought it was about all you could ask for. The current elite ran out in front. Some got wrecked, some blew engines and clutches, some more got wrecked and in the end a new winner got the flag. Rusty Wallace has to be way up the list of people not to listen to, especially this time. He wrecked hisself. Gordon, taken out in the Ernie Irvan "incident", had virtually no comment. TTom

I like the track too. I think it is more of a driver track, Push too hard too fast, you'll crash. The Richard petty's, benny parsons, would also have loved it. I think the WC drivers may have it a little to easy sometimes compared to earlier years of nascar. Some drivers are blaming the track when maybe it really was there fault. Hint #2. Travis |
