	Again since I cannot find a schedule with Pole time, a quick look at
 last year's schedule shows that the Poles were on Friday.

	Therefore the Deadline for This week's GM Goodwrench 400 at
 Rockingham, NC. is Friday February 21st, 1997 at 12:00pm (NOON). Don't be

	Hi,

 As Contest Mod. I need to make this request to insure that I know who you
 pick correctly.... A few of you chose Gordon, Labonte... Pretty easy you
 might say, except that there is a Jeff Gordon, and a Robie Gordon, there
 is a Terry Labonte, and a Bobbie Labonte.......

	I would rather not have to try to read your mind, and guess your
 correct picks. This would lead to me scoring the contest incorrectly, and
 possibly get unwanted grief :-) from the players that I incorrectly score.

	We all know that we are doing this for FUN, Bragging Right, because
 we are Nascar racing Fans, etc.... But as true Fans, we take this Contest
 seriously ;-), and I have been put in the frying pan before, and would
 rather not return there. It's a bit sizzling in there, and even #100 Sun
 Block does not save this poor Moderator from 3rd burns ;-) ;-)....

	Hi,

 Here's the moment you've been waiting for.... The Contest results after the
 first race of the season, the GM Goodwrench 400 at the Rock..... Caroline
 said "last year, as a Rookie player, I was learning from the Vets, this year
 it's full speed ahead, waiving bye bye to the rest of us with a 10pts score"..

	We also have (4) new Rookies, and (3) of them scored (2 with the
 correct Pole, 1 with the Win)...... Congratulation to Caroline, and to the
 Rookies, Good Luck next week..... In all, (12) players scored, and a whole
 bunch of us drew the big Zero...... There will  be some catching up to do.....

	Here's the Contest Results (I think??) after the Pontiac Excitement
 400 at Richmond, VA. Well, that's if Wusty/Crusty doesn't get DQ'ed, and
 I have to redo all this scoring stuff.......

	I didn't get to see the race in its entirety, was busy, but I did get
 to see, hear, and read some of the better moments..... Boy Blunder playing
 bumper cars out there with Ernie, G. Bodine, D. Jarrett, and who was it the
 37?? and the xx?? ramming each other at the end of pit row at the end.
 I guess it was from earlier bumping on the track........ To me, J. Gordon
 is making himself new buddies, and one of them will help him on his way to
 the wall ;-).......

	Dale Earnhardt, well he's gonna help me to a scoreless year, the way
 things going. He was around the lead for the first 30 laps, then slowly
 worked himself backwards from that point...... Bummer, week #2 is history,
 and I have a big zero...... The information highway got me close on the Pole
 (wrong Labonte though), but nada as far as the points.... Got to find a
 better site, or better scenery ;-)......

	Anyway, 14 Players scored, Mr Harding got the big 10pts for the
 correct Pole/Win Picks..... That is until Nascar decides who won what....
 Congratulation to Mr Harding and everyone who scored.........

	The next race is the Primestar 500, at Hampton, GA. (Atlanta) on
 March 9th,1997. The deadline for the race is Friday March 7th, 1997 at

 I read your entry/mail, and went back to re-check history (some, didn't want
 to spend days figuring this out ;-), of the Contest.....

	Last year, we had Pole quals rained out, and Nascar awarded the pole
 position according to their rules/Nascar point standings (I know, I didn't
 like Boy Blunder getting the pole, with me not picking him ;-).... At the
 time, points were awarded, although no-one picked the correct Pole/Win......

	Da Swami, creator & past Moderator of this Contest that we enjoy,
 MadMike another Veteran Moderator of this Contest probably know best, and
 have more experience/history than Moi (ooppss uh, I'm not implying that you
 guys are old ;-)....

	Anyway, Poles and Win Picks are guesses based on luck, knowledge,
 both. The weather, well no one can accurately predict the weather (not even
 weather persons). The Poles were rained out on Friday and Saturday which is
 a rare occurence, and being the 2nd/3rd race of the season, the Pole/starting
 places were awarded according to last year's standing, etc, etc......

	No one knew for sure that it was going to be rained out, the players
 were required to enter their picks prior to the Deadline, etc, etc...

	Therefore My ruling as Moderator (until impeached ;-) of the 1997
 Nascar Contest is that the scoring stands as is....... 

	Hey, Life's not perfect ;-), Rusty's engine passed inpection ;-)....
 Boy Blunder playing bumper cars in the name of racing ;-)...... Dale

	Here's the Contest Results after the Primestar 500, at Hampton, GA.
 Things were really quiet at the beginning except when the crowd went wild/
 cheering when J. Gordon blew up his engine. All you could hear is cheers
 in the background.... Got to love those Atlanta Nascar Fans ;-).......

	Then towards the end, we had a couple bad wrecks... R. Craven T-Boned
 Musgrave's car in the passenger side. Both were shaken, but not hurt.... The
 next wreck, J. Benson took a wild ride and hit the inside wall..... I kept
 looking to see if the driver's compartment/cage was OK, but they kept talking
 about the gas tank...... Glad the cage stayed intact, and came out of it a
 little shaken, sour ankle, and looked alright during his interview before the
 end of the race..... Someone was looking out for him, because his car looked
 like $h*t.....

	11 players scored points this week, and the #1 and #2 place players
 are Rookies...... Ummmm, it's either beginner's luck, or we should reconsider
 who are the Veterans and the Rookies ;-)...... I think that I'm going to
 start looking for their sources, rather then Da Swami's.... He seems to be
 interested on subjects outsides of racin ;-) ;-).......

	Congrats to the Rookies, and everyone who scored this week...... The
 Next race is the TranSouth Financial 400 at Darlington, S.C. on March 23rd,

	Hi,

 Here's the results of the Nascar Winston Cup Contest after the Transouth
 Financial 400, at Darlington, SC. The beginning of the race had a little
 bit of action with a few crashes.... I had to leave the TV for a while,
 but was able to return for the last 50 or so laps. Nice duel at the end
 with D. Jarrett, and T. Musgrave....... Fords are tough this year, and
 D. Jarrett seems/will be the driver to beat for the Winston Cup Championship.

	I may have to change driver for this year, Larry (Dales E. crew
 chief) still thinks he working with a Ford, and can't setup the Monty Carlo.
 Oh well, I may have to wait until next year for points ;-(.......

	We had 13 Players score points with Mr. Harding hitting the big
 10pts with his correct Pole/Win picks, moving into tie for first........
 Congratulation to Mr. Harding.......... As always, check you score just in
 case, Le Fubar has a brain cramp ;-)............

	***** The Next Race is the Interstate Batteries 500 at Ft. Worth,
 Texas on April 6th, 1997. It will be the First race there, and not knowing
 the true schedule for the Poles, I assume that they will be on Friday
 April 4th, 1997. (remember the word assume here). 

	Therefore, the Deadline for the Picks will be at NOON (12:00PM) on the
 day of the Quals, again assuming that they are on Friday.....

    IRL tested at PPIR for the first time yesterday, laps in the 160s on a
    green and dirty (from all the construction) track. Scott Goodyear
    and Ayrie L were there. They predict laps in the 180s when they
    come back in June. They say this may be the fastest 1 mile oval
    in the country. Gee I'm proud...8^) Nascar Winston West tour hits
    here in July.

	Here's the Contest Results after the Interstate Batteries 500 at Fort
 Worth, Texas..... I guess they had enough rain to cancel trying out for the
 Poles, so Nascar picked the starting grid per the Owner's points standing.

	Lot's of crashes early (first lap) getting Dale E. down a lap (bummer),
 and more crashes as drivers got too daring, etc..... Wusty was back to his
 old self whinning about the track for his bad luck...... Swerving, well he
 could not see the slow car ahead checking up because of a crash, so he just
 rammed him, and took out Jeff Gordon.

	Got to love these Texas Nascar Fans, they cheered when Jeff Gordon
 crashed, and cheered when Dale E. got his lap back.... It was good to see
 someone else win instead of D. Jarrett/J. Gordon. Jeff Burton had been
 running up front the last few races, so he finally won one...... Mark
 Martin won the Bush race, and was looking good until his engine blew up.
 The Roush team lost two out of three engine.........

	Anyways, as usual, check your score, and the Next race is
 Food City 500 at Bristol, TN. on April 13, 1997. The Deadline is at 12:00pm
 (NOON) on the day of the Pole Quals which I assume is Friday April 11,1997.

	Hi,

 Here's the Contest Results after the Food City 500 at Bristol, TN. Lots of
 crashing, yellow flags, etc. yesterday, a little demolision derby sorta.....
 Good finish, with Wusty, Flash Gordon, and Texas Terry all fighting for that
 first spot/win..... I guess Wusty was a little loose, and a little extra
 bumping from Flash Gordon got him sideways some. Glad that there wasn't a
 wreck there.........

	I was impressed with Rusty after the race, no whinning about how he
 got bumped around.......

	Lots of scoring this week, with 19 players getting points.... I think
 that I got the scoring straight, had to re-read the rules a couple times.
 Mr Dunnell had the the correct Pole/Win picks for 10, but since he picked
 Rusty by name, ended with 13pts (pole/win=10 + 3 for pole by name), and
 taking the lead....... Brian Adams got 10pts for the correct Pole/Win
 picks......

	Again as usual, check your score in case of mistakes.... Mine is easy
 to figure out ;-(.......

	The next race is the Goody's 500 at Martinsville, VA. on April 20,1997.
 The Deadline for the Pole/Win Picks is 12:00pm NOON on the day of the
 Qualifying, which I believe is Friday April 18,1997... Don't be late, enter

 postponed until May 10th, 1997 at 1:30pm...... Too much rain in the area
 for racing....... Did this ever happened in the history of this Contest???

 the Contest at that time (you all knew that ;-)........

	The next race is the Save Mart 300 at Sonoma, CA. on May 4th, 1997.

	Here is the Contest Results after the Save Mart Supermarkets 300
 at Sonoma, CA.... Lots of Players scored (16), 4 players hit the correct
 Pole/Win with their M. Martin picks.... Da Swami and the Mad Frenchman (Moi)
 finally got points...... Everyone better watch out, we are back... :-) ;-)

	Unfortunately, 1 pick came in too late 5/2 @16:02.... Not exactly
 sure when the Poling tries started, so I could not award points. Sorry....

	The next race is the Winston 500 on Saturday 5/10, at Taladega,
 I believe it is @ 1:30pm.... Hopefully, it won't rain, and we can see the
 race. All the picks are in, and hopefully I will be getting more points......


	The next race is the Winston Select 500 at Charlotte, NC. on
 May 17th,1997. Again the Deadline for the Picks is 12:00pm (NOON) on

1. Does .292 including any awards for the Talladega Poll? Andretti has it
which is Field. 

2. Does Field win if Mark Martin wins Talladega. At the time of making
the pick he hand't won and was in the Field but now he's won and not.
I din't pick this but I'm just curious.

	- I'm not sure if this (race rained out) has ever happened since this
 contest has been in existence (has not since I've moderated the contest), but
 if M. Martin wins a Field pick will not count since he won at Sonoma.....
 Everything will continue as if this was the proper order/schedule. The only
 thing that may cause a slight problem, is next years A/B List for the
 Pole/Win and these two races are out of sequence.......

	Here is the Contest Results after the Winston 500 at Taladega, AL.
 No yellow flags, quick race, new record, etc..... Mark Martin, could not
 win a Winston Cup race, even if his life depended on it, and now he has
 two in a row..... Good job Mark..... Dale Earnhardt came close, but no
 cigar..... I guess J. Gordon didn't like the freight train ganging up on
 him (Dale E., B Labonte, J Andretti) for the pass at the end. He'll have to
 start making more friends ;-)......

	12 Players scored this week, with Brian Adams taking back the lead.
 The MadFrenchman (Moi) got more points, eh eh, I've got my sight on 1st place
 ;-).......

	Next Saturday 5/17, we have the Winston Select (non point event)
 demolition derby ;-), well not really, but it will cover racing withdrawals
 until the next race, The Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte, NC on May 25,1997....

	As always, the Deadline for the Coca Cola 600's picks is at 12:00pm
 (NOON) on the day of the Pole Quals. I can never remember, but isn't it the
 Wednesday before 5/21 for the Pole Quals at Charlotte?????? Just in case,
 enter your picks early so that you won't be late........

	As always, check your score just in case if I goofed...... Oh,
 Mr. Shaughnessy, you didn't sound too sure of your Pole Pick
 Pole: Field (maybe Andretti?). If you would have removed the maybe and ?
 I would have been able to award the double points..... Next time, be brave,
 go for the gusto, remove the ? and maybe's ;-) ;-).....

	This is the Official Rules to the Nascar Winston Cup Contest for
	1997. Rule #10 concerning Cancellation/Postponements was added to
	cover Cancellation/Postponements of Pole/Races (something that has
	never happened in the history of the Contest until this year ;-).

	Please read them, and the Rules are in effect as of Now May 15,1997.

        Contest Rules for the 1997 Winston Cup Contest.  Pretty much the
        same as last year, except updated and "tweaked" where necessary.
        Major changes will be identified as such.  Please read them,
        understand them and follow them.  Remember, the major goal here is
        to have fun, kick butt and _WIN_.   Good luck to all.

        Rule #1; The Contest Administrator has the final word and is _always_
                 right. The Contest is administered by Normand Pare.
                 He can be reached at NETCAD::NPARE.

        Rule #2; This topic is for entries and contest results only. Please
                 use topic 168 for race results, or "bitch" in the appropriate
                 "bitchin'" topic.  Notes will be moved if deemed inappropriate
                 to the contest.  While I DO NOT want to discurage playfull
                 banter, driver slamming, criticism, or, er, discussion of
                 driving technique, let's try and put it in the appropriate
                 topics. (so we can find the "dirt" quicker)

        Rule #3; The contest will start with the first 1997 race not
                 included in the speedweeks activity. That means the
                 contest will start with the Goodwrench 500 at the Rock.
                 (The Daytona contest is/was administered by Brain Gaffney)

        Rule #4; Scoring will be as follows...

                 - Correct Pole guess                   3pts
                 - Correct Winner guess                 5pts
                 - Correct Pole and Winner Guess        10 pts
                 - Your Winner Pick finishes 2nd        2pts
                 - Your Winner Pick finishes 3rd        1pt

        Rule #5; List A and B scoring (denoted by picking the FIELD for
                 pole or win) will work the same way *without scoring for
                 second or third*. The field is everyone *NOT* on the list.
                 Therefore, if "field" comes in 2nd or 3rd - no points.
                 Anyone who is on either list A or B is *NOT* in the field.

    Use the most updated LIST A and B  (note 128) to see who is NOT in the
    FIELD for a particular race. Common sense will prevail in the case of
    the lists being wrong. If a driver wins a race this year, he should be
    on LIST B for the next whole year. Ditto for poles.

        Rule #6;  Scoring on drivers not in list A or B.

    The last scoring rule, which was last achieved about three years ago
    and was not clearly documented is the double scoring rule. If you
    pick a driver *by name* and they are part of the field in that category
    then you score double. That's for the pole, win, second or third place
    and even the pole/win scoring combination.

        Rule #7; As was the case last year, Entries MUST be time stamped
                 by NOON of the SCHEDULED qualifying day to count.  That
                 gives you folks out west a little bit of a handicap, but
                 not that much. The time stamp is the time it is received
                 on VMSNET in Alpharetta, Georgia (EST). That's the only
                 sure fire way of avoiding any conflicts.

    IT IS UP TO EACH ENTRANT TO KNOW WHEN QUALS ARE SCHEDULED FOR EACH
    RACE.  For example CHARLOTTE's races tend to be done on Wednesday.
    The 1997 season schedule INCLUDING QUALIFYING is located in topic
    ******  to be determined  ******

        Any questions about the contest or scoring can be sent directly to
        Norm and he'll give them as much attention as I have in the past...

        NONE!!!

        Rule #7�;  While this isn't a rule per say (yet), please be aware
                 that I key off the node::user for each entrant.  If you
                 are constantly replying from different nodes, this makes
                 it difficult for _me_ to keep track of.  Also, I have to
                 take into account people who don't have accounts or have
                 to use generic accounts.  Finally, people who will be
                 away for an extended period of time and tend to queue
                 up entries.  All this puts and EXTRA BURDEN on ME to
                 make sure I'm 100% screw-up free.  Please keep this in
                 mind and act accordingly.  The burden will be on *YOU*
                 to make sure you're entries are 100% understandable by
                 me.
                Moral of the story:
                * I don't mind when someone queues up 1 or 2 weeks of
                  entries.  1 months worth is pushing it.
                * Try to use the same node::account each week.
                * If none of this is possible, please let me know about
                  your situation so I can be aware of your entry(ies).

        Rule #8; When you believe the contest administration is wrong,
        see rule #1.

        Rule #9; ALL SEASON PICKS are those contained in topic 277.
                 season picks are good only for the current year.
                 If you choose to stay with the same winning combination
                 throughout the year, please place your entry into that
                 topic.

	Rule #10; This Rules concerns Poles/Races Cancellation/Postponement.
		  If the Qualifying for the Pole Position is cancelled because
		  of the weather or any other cause, and NASCAR awards the
		  Pole to "Point Leader, Owner Points, or etc." NO POINTS
		  will be Scored. This is to protect against Player(s) waiting
		  until the last minute, using the weather to score points.

		  If the race is Postponed because of the weather or any
		  other cause, the A/B List, Field Entries will be scored
		  in the order that the race is run/scheduled (ie: Race #4
		  run/scheduled after Race #5). All the Picks submitted for
		  the WIN will be LOCKED, and NO CHANGES ALLOWED.

	Here's the Contest Results after the Coca Cola 600 (well 500) in
 Charlotte, NC. Only got to see half the race (until the rain delay), then
 lost track/went to dream land..... Found out from the Nascar WEB page who
 won/finishing order..... Not sure what happened and how Wusty got up front
 from a lap down, and a weak engine, but he did. The rest approx. finished
 where they were running.....

	Anyway, 21 players scored, 2 with the 10 points for the correct
 Pole/Win picks, and 1 DQ'ed (Thursday is just a bit too late )...... As
 usual, check your score, just in case, and the next Race is the Miller 500
 at Dover, DE on June 1st, 1997.....

	The Deadline is at 12:00pm NOON on the day of the Poles, which I

	Good Morning,

 Hope everyone had a nice weekend, and watched the race at Dover, DE.....
 Here in the N.E. we had rain most of the day, so it was a perfect day to
 watch the race.....

	Things didn't look good from the Poling, and start of the race for
 D. Earnhardt, but he still finished 17th ;-(.... B. Labonte was on the Pole,
 and had the Field beat/under control, until Kyle Petty gave him a little
 nudge, and ended his bid for the win...... Then we had Swervin Irvin, and
 D. Jarrett up front, until Swervin tried to push D. Jarrett out of Pit row
 (not too smart), and ended in the back somewhere.......

	With D. Jarrett leading the pack, and Flash Gordon challenging for
 the lead, don't remember who crashed, but Flash Gordon decided that it was
 quicker to go through D. Jarrett than around him...... But to his regrets,
 only got him behind the wall, to the cheer of the crowd..... Somehow, I get
 the feeling that his fan base his going down........

	Now with the win in his sight and a bulleye on his tail, D. Jarrett
 was running away with it until...... the engine blew.... Bummer..... Swervin
 was not to be denied, so he proceeded to find this elusive patch of oil,
 that no one else found..... I can only guess that it came from D. Jarrett's
 engine, or he just over drove his car..........

	R. Rudd took over the lead, fought it out with J. Burton and
 M. Martin until the end for the Win..... Good Job Ricky........

	Ok, Ok, enough rambling.........

	Here's the Contest Results after the Miller 500 at Dovah..... Only
 9 Players scored this week, Moi being one of them ;-) (I needed the points)...
 Des Swami, followed my advice and got points too ;-)...... As usual,
 check your Score, just in case, and the next Deadline for the Pocono 500
 at Long Pond, PA. is at 12:00pm (NOON) on the day of the Pole Qual. which
 I believe is Friday June 6th, 1997........

Ok, well yes.  ANOTHER DNF for Rusty.  I like thier all or none
attitude, but man it hurts in the points.  I think the Rusty
team needs to steal Hendricks chief engine builder Rick Wetzel.

the infield more often.  My Daytona 500 infield partner
bought a 6 cyl pickup.  Platform construction is underway.
Current design puts our feet 12 feet in the air with a
4 ft rail strong enough to hold plywood.  Then comes the
buggs bunny style rachet chair.  Yeeha.
