Spent the full day at Harrisburg, PA show. As always not enough time to
see it all. They do have 2 and 3 day passes available. The crew I go
out with said the same thing, next year an overnighter and 2 days to get
to see it all. Have a bag filled with reading, and wishing material
for those, when I win the lottery trips.

Way too much to see in one day. Now where to come up with the five
grand for the New Foundland moose, caribo, and bear trip my buddy
booked for 1998 so I can go along.

    Irv,

Sounds like you guys had a good time. If plans had worked out I'd
be there now and leave on sunday. I sent your note off to the guys who
couldn't make it and said here's a 1 year notice try and get permission
to go for next year. We're all chomping at the bit to go the the Big E
show in W. Springfield, Mass next friday (2/21). If we don't find
anything of real interest and book on we'll end up mostlikely back in
New Brunswick, Canada hunting Whitetails again. The New Foundland trip
sounds like fun. I looked at them a few times and the average for just
Moose started at $2,500 and went up. Have you guys tried submitting to
any New England states for the Moose Lottery? Last year I along with
others boycotted Maine as they raised the fee to $20 for non-residents
only. I called F&G and they said the legislature raised the fee against
F&G's recommendation to keep it the same price. We're awaiting the
release of the New Hampshire applications any day now. The cost is $10
with no license required to apply.

1549.10Moose permit's How many non resident?KYOSS1::LUIZZAFri Feb 14 1997 15:0128

    Guy,

Have the Maine permit application in my bag to be sent out. From what
someone had heard they are contemplating a must have a permit stamp to
apply from a Maine License which would blow away a whole bunch of
people unless they hunt Maine everyyear anyway. Moose hunting non
resident in Mass or New Hamp sounds interesting. Problem is knowing
where to go, which means a guide. Anyone up there know where Bullwinkel
hides up there? How many non resident permits are issues for Moose?
If you ever get one in Maine it's like winning the Lottery (150 for the
    whole state).
Deer hunting I can do 10 minutes from the house, we only took 55,000
with combined seasons in New Jersey (estimate numbers not final yet).

Hope you find the hunting deal of the year at the show they all paint a
great picture, so be sure to call references before booking it's worth
    the phone call expense.

Wish it would stop raining and just snow for tomorrows stocking of
birds. It makes for a fun day outdoors vrs a muddy one. Still better
    than working either way.

    Irv,

Right now the Northern 2 New England states have Moose hunting by
permit. I had heard that Maine was considering going to having lottery
applications for Moose requiring the current years license number on
it. I believe Vermont doesn't have any restrictions (yet) on Resident
vs Non-resident when they pick. New Hampshire's allocation of Non-Resident
permits is based upon total number of permits for the year. If you want
I can mail you down the ine for NH. Each booklet has 2 applications in
    it.

    Irv,

Right noew the 3 northern New England states have Moose hunting
by permit. Maine issues the most, New Hampshire issued under 500 last
year, and I believe Vermont was around 75. I know in Maine if your
picked a mailing list goes out ot guides in the area you've been chosen
for. I never heard of that happening in NH or Vermont. I had heard
Maine was considering having a requirement of the current years license
to be able to apply for a Moose permit. I'll be boycotting them again
this year. NH gives a percentage of its permit to Non-Residents and I
believe Vermont has no restrictions of Resident vs. Non-Resident. If
you like I can mail down NH applications to you they have 2 per booklet
and I'll check at the show to see if Vermont has theirs printed yet.

    Guy,

Thanks for the info, looks like you have to be just lucky to get one.
As someone from the lottery commission says " you have to be in it to
win it". We will give it a shot.

    /Irv
p.s. didn't realize NH had that many moose.
