1518.0. "REMINGTON 870 SP, ANY COMMENTS" by ALASKA::LAFOSSE (WHEN THE BULLET HITS THE BONE...) Mon Jul 29 1996 14:06

I'm looking into picking up a new Remington 870 SPS for deer hunting. HAs
anyone got any info on them, personal experience etc...

can I get one with an optional smoothbore? do they only come with rifled
barrels?

cost?

how'd they shoot?

I'm currently using a Mossberg 500, but would like to upgrade... It looks like
what i have in mind for a hunting rig, but I can't used the rifled barrel in
mass.

Thanks in advance for any info.

		I don't have to SPS version, I have the SP version. 20"
	smooth-bore, rifle sights, parkerized finish, dull wood. It's
	nifty, and fun to shoot ( accruate ) but kicks like a 20 ton
	mule when using 3" magnum slugs...........

1518.2Field and Stream MSBCS::MERCIERTue Jul 30 1996 09:2314
    Fra,

         The August issue of Field and Stream has a slug gun wright up in
    it. The unfortunate part is that it is comparing all rifled barrels.
    Why would we want to have more accurate shotguns in this state of
    Massachusetts. Makes no sense to me %^{

         This article also mentions Ithacas. I thought that Co. went out of
    business? My father has an older Deerslayer which I have tried to buy
    from him twice. No go! That thing is dead nuts at 75 yrds and I took a
    big Doe with it at Quabbin at 90 yrds out. Where can I find one of
    those?

1518.5RIFLED SLUG BARRELS TO BE LEGAL SHORTLYMPGS::MATHEWSFri Aug 09 1996 10:483
    Sit tight before you purchase. Rifled slug barrels for shotguns should
    be legal some time in the near future. H.1348 has passed the MA
    legislature and is awaiting Governor Weld's signature.
