--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does anyone have any experience with Burris scopes? I have been told by
someone I consider reputable that they are better than Leupold, and about
the same money. I'm consider a 3x9 or 2x8 in the signature series.

Also, I'm kind of wondering about the posi-lock feature. It's a
post in the tube that keeps the point of impact from changing due
to heavy recoil or the scope being dropped. It's also considerably
more money, and I'm wondering if it's worth the money. Seems to
me that a good scope should hold point of impact and withstand
some beating without having to resort to some other mechanism.

I plan to mount this on a 7mm mag that has the BOSS (which supposedly
reduces recoil).

Thanks,

Jerry

In todays market place prices are becoming more and more competive and
each manufacturer has lines to sell at different price ranges. The most
important item to look at is warranty. Leupold started the american
made market with a Lifetime warranty no matter who owns it. A lot of
others are now starting to follow. The only manufacturer I can say that
comes close to Leupold is NIKON or maybe even Pentax. I give these two
manufacturers more respect as they have been in the camera lense
business for some time and are now trying to claim a share of the scope/
binocular market. That's not to say the others aren't any good either as
my spotting scope is a Redfield and that was chosen for its quality and
options available. Try and go to a shop who carries a variety of scopes
and look through each one to see the differences or get in touch with
each manufacturer you're considering and compare the stats of the scope
to one another. All my guns are topped with Leupold and have no complaints.

Burris also has a lifetime warranty and, in my experience they are more
rugged than Leupolds. If I could start again it would be with Burris
only. While the Leupolds are fine pieces with good optics they are not
for the magnum shooter. They will not hold zero. Only a Posilock will
do this. Leupold dealers dismiss this feature as a marketing ploy but
don't fall for this. Put them on a handgun......separates the wheat
    from the chaff.

My Contender has a Burris posilock in 2-7x. It is in 6.5JDJ (.264) has
a muzzle velocity of 2625fps from 12" barrel and pretty good recoil. It
has been sighted in since May of 1991. Over 3000 rounds with the
    slightest deviation in zero.

IF you rifle generates and significant recoil, say 7mmRem Mag and up,
then look to the posilock. Burris is in Colorada, is entirely American
made and is much better than Nikon or any of the other manufacturers.
