1449.0. "Hunting R.I." by TLE::HNDYMN::NOEL (Chicken Farmer) Mon Jul 17 1995 14:34

Hi guys,

I haven't been in here for a while...

However I was thumbing through one of my hunting mags this weekend
and came across the state by state info on hunting bag limits
etc,.

Anyway, I found that Rhode Island has a bag limit on deer
of 4. This is for archery of course for 21.00 non-resident.

I will be calling the fish & game dept down there for more
information but I thought I would also post a note in here.

Does anyone know anything about hunting in R.I. ?
Is it worth the trip ? I would imagine that one would have to
hunt private land down near the southern edge towards Conn.

Anyone have any info.. ?

Wow! I wish we had a bag limit of four deer here in Ontario. I don't
think there's anywhere in Canada where you have a bag limit greater
than 1. Oh well, I suppose we shouldn't complain; things could be a
    lot worse...

If I remember correctly, in RI you need written permission to hunt
on someone's property and very few people are willing to give that
permission. I was hoping Kevin Marshall would jump in and reply here
as he knows a heck of alot more about RI hunting than I do. I'll send
him mail and ask him to respond and give us the scoop.

Ah RI hunting, yup 4 deer, go ahead and try to get permission. If
you do cherrish it. RI has so many deer you cannot walk thru the woods
without having to clean your shoes off from the deer dung you step in.
There is a section of 146 between the 1st exit in RI and the 2nd exit
that has at least 25-30 road kills per season, thats not counting the
rest of the year! I gave up trying to hunt in RI because of the
written permission issue. If you hunt the state land, and there is a
lot of it you run into thousands of hunters in the woods hunting birds
rabbits..etc all there seasons overlap. And most of all RI is well
staffed with game wardens, they are all over the place from sept 1st
thru jan 31st.........maybe someday they will drop the written
permission........and while they are at it maybe they can take the
restrictions off the motor sizes in RI. . On all the lakes in the
abstracts they either do not allow gas motors or there is a 10 hp
limit..... I live in RI and yet I cannot fish or hunt there.....I'll
just have to keep giving my money to New York.......thanks for getting
    me going Bing......

As Kevin M. said a lot of people will not give permission. I couple
of my friends live on the MA/RI border. A couple of years ago they
went to a couple of town clerk offices. Found out who owned certain
sections of land. Contacted the owners, only to get a no answer. After
about 3 times, they stopped looking.

Well thanks for the input guys,

I was born and raised in R.I and I have been living in NH
for about 10 years now. I see R.I. hasn't changed a damn bit.

Good ole R.I. Corruptest little state in the union....
