                       Bismuth Shot Approved by FWS

    The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) published a final rule on
    January 3 giving interim conditional approval for the use of Bismuth-
    Tin shot for waterfowl and coot hunting for the remainder of the 1994-
    95 hunting season. The Conservation, Wildlife, and Natural Resources
    Division within NRA-ILA submitted comments to FWS supporting the approval
    of Bismuth shot, which has been found to be non-toxic to waterfowl.
                  Final approval of Bismuth will only be granted upon the
    satisfactory completion of further boilogicaltesting required by FWS
    and upon availability of a field detection device to address law
    enforcement concerns.
