I was always under the impression that hunting with rifles was not allowed in Mass but read in some old book that certain ones are. It looked like fox and rabbit and other small game were allowed with a .22. Does anyone know the rules on this and if so does my .223 fall under the .22 rule ? Thanks, -Steve-

Steve, Rifles are permitted in MA, but you must be west of the eastern boundry of Worcester county (basically 495). Rifles may not be used to hunt deer. Check your abstracts and with the DF&W for more on this issue. I think the abstratcs specifically state that you have to use a min. size rifle for bear and that you can use rifles for coyote/fox/coon/bobcat. But check with the F&W before you do. Walt | |||||
