-< GSP Training Information Needed >-
Ken,
GunDog Magazine has an article on the modern GSP in it's latest edition.
It's a good article, and a good magazine.
Good luck,
Michael

| Ken,
Get the BIBLE !!!!
"Training and Care of the Versatile Hunting Dog"
by Sigbot Winterholt (check my spelling)
Its a green spiral bound book, $9.95, and worth its weight
in gold ;-)
This is the NAVHDA training guide. If followed, relatively
closely, guaranteed you'll end up with exactly the dog you
describe in .0 !!
Get a Gun Dog magazine. Find the NAVHDA ad and if there is
a phone number listed, call it. Tell them where you are and
that you would like the name of, and contact for, the chapter
closest to you. They'll be more than happy to oblige.
The Gun Dog series of video tapes, featuring Bob West, pretty much
follows the above book and is a great resource. These can be
ordered through the Gun Dog magazine 'library'.
If you'd like to send me mail directly, I'd be happy to talk
'shorthairs' with you.
dave CANON::NELSON
P.S. If you send me your interoffice mail stop, I can send you a
back issue of the GSP Club of America's monthly magazine. You'll
be able to find breeder and club contacts for your area in it.

| Ken,
Another book that is a must have is, Gun Dog. This book instructs you on how
to pick a dog out of the litter and early training techniques - starting about
6-7 weeks. The guy (I think it is written by Wolthers) who wrote Gun Dog
believes that dogs are like kids: Given the right environment and teaching/
training early on your dog will learn much more than if you start it when it is
older. It also tells you how to break bad habits - if the dog should develop
any.
I can vouch for his technique - this weekend out in Kansas my vizsla had 20 +
points and 8 cocks were killed over her. She just turned 20 months old.
BTW, we were hunting with a group that rotated 8 german shorthairs into the
field. It was really quite a site to see them pointing and honoring.
Be sure you get your dog from hunting/field stock. Don't get sucked in and buy
a show dog with no nose/brain. If you have a chance, ask to see the parents
working birds.
Good luck.
Mark
