1409.0. "Camp Recipes" by 29067::J_HENSON (and it's still too short!) Tue Nov 08 1994 15:46
We already have a couple of game recipe notes, but I thought it would
be nice to have a recipe note for the things you cook when you're
hunting game. You know, camp food. Either stuff you cook at camp, or
food that you prepare ahead of time and heat up when you're there. I
don't see any reason to limit this to hunting camp either. It probably
tastes the same whether you're hunting or just camping.
I'll start it off with a real simple recipe (the only kind I know) for
a campfire stew. As with all of my recipes, nothing is exact or done
the same way twice.
Ingredients
------------
Ground beef/hamburger, or little smokey cocktail weenies - 1 or 2 lbs.
half a medium sized onion
1 or 2 large cans of Ranch Style Beans
1 large can of whole kernal corn
The amount of ingredients depends on the number you're feeding.
Brown the meat (I like ground meat. My wife prefers the cocktail weenies).
Add chopped up onion while you're browning the meat. When the meat is
browned, dump in the beans and corn. Cook at fairly high heat until
it's hot. Eat.
This is simple, and damn good when you're out in the boonies. Ain't
bad at home, either.

| RE: 1 or 2 cans of Ranch style beans...
Do you cook this at supper, after the hunt? I hope so.
Otherwise, one might be a little too loud to hunt game.

| Nah.
I eat beans before a hunt too.
It helps me charge up my built in grunt call for hands free grunt'n - if
you get my drift.
