1318.0. "Small Game in Colorado?" by 29067::S_HUNTER () Thu Nov 04 1993 16:06
Fellow Hunting Noters in the Colorado area:
Does anyone know where in the area Pikes Peak, or even in the state
for that matter, where one would find more of an abundance of small game?
I have lived in this state for over 10 years and though I love hunting
elk and deer, I sorely miss the small game opportunities that the north
eastern United States provided.
Rabbits I have found are either jacks are quite thin and muscular as is
the same with squirrels, though I'm not certain I trust the health of
Squirrels in this state.
Any tips or advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

| Get a Colorado State Wildlife area guide. So Republican state wildlife
area's (Bonny Reserviour) is huge and pretty good hunting. Tamarack
State Wildlife area's really good on the west side. Bob Elliot State
wildlife area's huge and is ok. John Martin reservoir can be good too.
Private land is the best and it seems the further you get away from
Denver the easier to get permission. Bringing your kid(s) along
increases your chances of getting permission greatly (as a few
ranchers/farmers have confessed ;^) . My hunting pals are amazed when
I demonstrate about an 80% success rate on obtaining permission to hunt....
and don't mind it a bit :^)

| Steve,
I hunt cotton tails on a regular basis in this state. I chase them
down in the mountains. Contact me off line and I'll be glad to steer
you in the right direction.
