1292.1 | Colorado, too | CSC32::J_HENSON | But what about anemone handling? | Thu Sep 09 1993 16:54 | 10 |
| Colorado has a similar law. It states that any hangun must have a
minimum engergy of 550 ft. lbs. at 50 yards. This rules out .357
magnums and even some 44 magnum loads. The law has been effect for
only a year or so (it may even be new this year).
I appears that game regulating agencies have decided that .357 mags
and similar loads are just not enough for deer and bigger animals.
Maybe they're right. I don't hunt with a handgun and don't know.

So if your season is already on, how has your success ratio been?
Seen anything?

| Larry,
The hunting regs are very vague for handguns this year. Nothing about
barrel length etc, the only thing the regs said were that the
handgun must produce a round of 500 ftlbs at 100 yds. That's the only
rule.

1292.8 | Average season so far GREAT | FINALY::SEATSDB | | Fri Sep 17 1993 11:30 | 28 |
| Bob,
Saw lots of 'em shot none of 'em. I have spent about 20 hrs in the
stand this year so far I have seen approx. 100 deer about 20 of which
were bucks only four of which were shootable. But same old reasons
"too dark","too far","slow down"and my personal favorite "turn around".
prevented me from dropping the firing pin. I still have four more
months to go so I can afford to wait.
In answer to your success ratio question. I have been extremely
successful on each and every day " saw some deer, smelled some good
air, and enjoyed the sunrise/sunset". Well except that one evening when
it rained 3" in two hours. My boots are still drying out.
Other hunters have been a bit more so. Tally so far is 9 taken by
rifle and 2 by pointy stick. Best 145lbs,8 point,14in. spread. And sad
to say one slightly smaller 8 point fatally wounded and not found for 2
weeks.( BTW This one counts against that persons club limit ) looks
like harvest rate is approx 1 deer/15 hrs in stand This is for bucks
only.Doe season opens Oct 1, and the harvest rate will drop to around
1 deer/3hrs.And then in late Nov. the dogs come out since all the stupid
deer are gone. So the best four months of the season are still to come.
Sorry it took so long to reply but you know how customers are " I WANT
IT FIXED NOW" I will probably spend a few hours in the stand Sat and
Sun so wish me luck. And remember what your momma said don't put your
eye out with that pointy stick. ;-)

1292.9 | IT'S FINALLY HERE! | ODIXIE::RHARRIS | Bowhunters never hold back! | Fri Sep 17 1993 14:06 | 17 |
| Yeah man! I'll be in the stand for about 1/2 hour come daylight
tommorrow. It's just really starting to get me. This year I have
decided that I am going to keep a journal of my hunting. Record stuff
like wind, temp, weather, wildlife seen, personal thoughts, stuff like
that. That way when it's January, and the season is over, I can
reflect on my hunting experiences and trip out again.
Oh well, bow is ready, I am ready, clothing is ready, truck is ready,
and hopepfully will catch some deer by suprise.
Good hunting all. May the 1993-94 hunting season start and end without
any accidents or fatalities.
Rippin to go to full draw,

Gee Bob, you wait all year long, least you could do is spend more than
a half hour hunting, unless of course you meant that you'd have one
down by then.

| 1/2 hour before daylight, means I will get there 1/2 hour before
daylight. I will stay until I harvest one, or it rains hard, or it
gets to hot, or it is noon.
Hopefully it is the first one, harvestation.
Red, hunting tale number one: While Bob was strategically placed in
the woods, waiting for his deer, Earl Shaddix southern sportsman, was
knocking on the Front door of Bob's house to take care of Bob's dear!
Hey Earl, just leave the money on the nightstand! I gotta have gas
money to get to deer camp you know.
