1290.0. "Doves... Anyone get out?" by BBCX06::KOOSER (Free Willee,Lassie,Mickey, slick Willie - for good) Thu Sep 02 1993 17:37

Anyone get out for the opening day of dove season?

I can said I did but my shooting was nothing brag about - only 50%.

But, those 11 birds will sure taste good tonight.

    Best of luck all.

I did on my way back from school..But, since winter has basically come
"again" all the birds have headed for warmer parts...I saw two, and
thats with 40 miles of dirt roads...

Anybody going dove hunting anytime soon?

Season opens on Sept 1 and I can't wait to get out there. I'm not
going to get to go until the 3rd, and it can't get here fast enough.

I don't really have any "shoots" lined up since I moved to Ohio, but
I will probably stake out a buddy of mine's feed lot and get a few
    shots.

    Good Luck

I got invited to a shoot this weekend and showed up at 4:00pm. When
I arrived only 2 other guys were there (about 10 invited). My friend's
brother who invited me was one and he said to go ahead and get started.
I walked into the field where we were going to shoot and the doves were
already starting to fly. I had about 10 when my buddy arrived about
4:30, mostly easy shots. I finished out my limit by 5:00 and had a
great time picking on my friend when he missed. His dad came over from
work to see how we were doing and I offered him my shotgun and 2 boxes
of shells. He shot his limit by 6:15 too! If was one of those days
you were glad you got the call.

Now I'm ready for something that weighs about 180lbs heavier!

    Come on bow season!

    Well, not doves, but..

Wife and I went out around the cabin to do some work for upcoming
    deer/elk season.

Didn't see too many animals (damn), but got into some grouse.

She got 2 ruffs and two blues. I got to back her up on the ruffs, but
no help required on the blues. It's too bad she doesn't realize what a
    good shot she is.

    Ken,

I sure wish my wife enjoyed that. I took her hunting a couple of times
and she didn't have a very good time. The first time I took her
squirrel hunting and she decided I shouldn't shoot any. After I head
shot one and he stated jumping on the ground, it ended the fun. The
second time I took her dove hunting and she sat in the car and cried
while I jump shot a double that had landed 10 yards from her.

    Oh well,

Glad you had a good time.
