1286.0. "MA F&W Dept in trouble" by ESKIMO::BING () Fri Aug 27 1993 12:19

    In the past year here in MA the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife
    came under attack by a group of anti's claiming that the way the
    board was set up it was unconstitutional. That meaning there were
    no anti's on the board. So they sued and eventually lost. Now the
    word is that this group wants to put it to a vote. So possibly
    on the ballot for 94' there will be a referendum adressing this.
    The group wants the board to also have 2 Earth First actvists,
    2 CEASE activists, 2 Greenworld activists, and the way the law
    would be worded would require that a woman be the Director of
    the F&W Dept. Not that I don't think a woman could do the job,
    but why word the law like that?

    Anyway it turns out that hunting and trapping are not the only things
    on thier "To Ban" list. Fishing is also included. So keep your eyes
    peeled and ears open for more info on this and post it here. remember
    this is MA and anything can happen.

    What prohunting, pro firearm, organizations or individuals are
    coming together to battle this? Make history, don't become history!
    This should be retaliated immediately. Whom is driving or facilitating
    the anti-antihunting movement in Mass?

1286.2Spread the word!ESKIMO::BINGFri Aug 27 1993 14:1310

    I got this from "The Message".A monthly newsletter from GOAL. (Gun
    owners action league) They talked more about the hunting aspect but did
    mention that fishing was also a target. What if any plans they have
    to fight this I don't know. I think they maybe waiting to see if these
    people are really serious. What WE need to do is tell people about this
    so they can make an informed vote if it comes down to that. Any idea's
    as to who letters could/should be sent to?

1286.3Anyone wanna be an activist :-)CHRLIE::HUSTONFri Aug 27 1993 16:569

    I would think that the part about requiring the head to be a women
    would be illegal. No more legal than requiring it to be a man.
    I will be seeing my Uncle this weekend, he is fairly high up in
    the MA fish and game (mostly in the fishing part), I will see if
    he has anything to say on this.
