1230.0. "Are hunters being shot on purpose?" by ESKIMO::BING (Politicians prefer unarmed peasents) Thu Dec 10 1992 14:20

I read a short blurb in ::SOAPBOX about a guy who was supposedly
arrested for shooting hunters. I asked someone in my group if they
heard anything and another person who heard us said that in either
last nights or the night before "Lawrence Eagle tribune" there was
a short article on this. She couldn't remember much but said the article
mentioned that what at first were thoguht to be accidents may turn
out to be the work of a killer. Can anybody deny or confirm this?
I asked the person to look for the article but she said she may have
    thrown it away.

Yep. This was happening in Ohio and West VA. I believe. A number
of hunters were found shot. Most had been in tree stands. A buddy of
mine whom I hunted PA bow season with is a cop in Dayton told me about
it. The guy is supposed to have shot a number of people.

1230.2serial hunter killerSALEM::MACGREGORThu Dec 10 1992 14:4210
I saw something about this on the news the other night. there was a
hunter from Mass. I believe and he was hunting in Ohio and from they
thought used to be an accident turned to be this guy that did it. They
arrested him the other day. I think he was from Michigan or some state
from the midwest. I think a couple of other states that he deliberately
shot aother hunters maybe Wisconsin or Kansas. I am no sure. The guy
from Mass. that was killed happened in either 1988 or 1989. Supposedly
the guy they arrested has admitted to killing the hunter from Mass. but
they suspect him of killing possibly 4 more and maybe more.

Did they ever say why the guy was doing it? I at first thought it
may have been a lunatic anti trying to show how dangerous hunting
was but maybe he was just another nut case? The guy in SOAPBOX
said the number was 20, I don't know if this is accurate or if it
is even supposed to be the number dead/wounded.

Yes it is true. I work in Ohio and there was a special the other day
that said there were 4 or 5 hunters killed here in Ohio. Most of the
guys killed were fairly close to the road and were shot multiple times.
The report said the guy probably wasn't a good shot. Who knows, he may
like to see them suffer before he puts them out. I hope they catch the
    scumbag.

re .4 They already caught him. They just don't know exactly how many he
has killed yet. Supposedly they have been tailing this guy for awhile.
I can't remember the whole story. I just remember that the wife and
parents have a videotape of the area he was killed in. It was wide
open. I think they are labeling this guy a serial killer.

I read the article to, and at first the guy from Mass was listed as
killed by accident but they reopened him case and are now listing it
as murder. This person/persons was not only killing hunters but they
also believe fisherman, and hikers. So it looks like anyone trying
to enjoy the outdoors was fair game.

i think suitable punishment would be to tie him into a loggy about 20'
up and let the victims familys take pot shots from 50 yards out, but
with a bow, to prolong the inevitable...

we need to really take a good hard look at our legal system and remove
people like this from existence,

The News Paper article I read agree's with .6. Hunters, Hikers and
    fishermen were all targets.

when the hunter in Mass was killed in Ohio during hunting season, I
do remember hearing alot about it on the news in New England.

Now that this is a case of someone stalking hunters, the media is being
closed mouth. I can't make up my mind if this is good or bad considering
some other nut might copy cat the idea.

I agree 100% with ya. There is no need for anyone who is guilty
of so many deaths to continue to exist on this planet. It should be
    open game on him now!

Does it really surprise anyone that this would be kept a secret. Since most
of the Newspaper & Network stations are anti anything that has to do with
firearms and hunting.

On the other hand if it had been put in the national papers and televised
the copy cats would have had a field day.

Some times just cannot win, no matter which way we turn. From a personal
stand point I would like to know about something like this. Forwarned is
fore armed.
