1221.0. "Spike vs normal
" by MTWAIN::YOUNG () Tue Nov 17 1992 14:41
A friend of mine was involved in the Quabin Res. hunt last week and got
two of the nutrition poor deer that are around the Quabin (40 is ave. per
square mile there with the rest of the state 6 - 10 per square mile).
One was a doe and the other was a buck with one antler normal and three
points and the other antler was a 6 inch spike. The doe was 90 lbs dressed
and the buck was 130 dressed. I am not an expert for sure but knowing
the high population and low food supply of the area I bet nutrition has
much to do with it. Just like people it is probably a combination of
heredity and nutrition.
