1200.0. "Mass Archery Law question" by ASABET::POMEROY (Bass'n and Bust'n !!) Thu Sep 24 1992 13:33

    Hi all,

Can someone answer this question for me?? I am new to Archery hunting
and I looked through the abstract and did not find anything...It states
that only 2 deer per year may be taken. During shotgun season you and
take 2 deer with antlers greater than 3" or 1 w/antlers and 1 with and
anterless permit. And it says that an anterless deer permit is required
for the shotgun season, so what about the laws for the Archery season.
Can I take any deer during this time???/

    Thanks for all your help,

One doe and one buck or two bucks for archery. For shotgun it is
two bucks unless you have and antlerless deer permit then one of each.

You can also extend your archery season by hunting with a bow
during the shotgun season, but you have to abide by the archery
rules. No archery hunting allowed during the primitive weapons
season. Always seemed like a strange rule to me.

The previous note should read, You must abide by the Shotgun seasons rules,
because you don't need a permit for antlerless during archery and you don't
have to wear 500 square inches of Blaze orange at that time also.

In Mass., you are allowed 2 deer, of which only one can be
antlerless. If you take a doe with a bow during archery, and you
draw a doe permit, this invalidates your doe permit.
If you hunt with a bow during shotgun season, I believe that
you do need to wear the 500 square inches of hunter orange. I could
be wrong. But I don't think so. Good luck.

I'm not sure if I was clear in re.4, you must follow the rules of
Shotgun season wohich does mandate the 500" of Blaze.
