HELLO HUNTERS, INFO PLEASE, I LIVE IN COLO.SPRGS.,CO. AND HUNT THE S.W. WHAT I NEED IS SOME INPUT TO THE DEER/ELK HUNTING AROUND THE VAIL AREA. MY FATHER-IN-LAW RENTED A CONDO IN VAIL AND WANTS TO HUNT THE 3RD COMBO SEASON. I AM GOING UP THERE 8-15-92 TO SCOUT AROUND. ANY HINTS ON WHERE I CAN TAKE HIM WILL BE A GREAT HELP. HE IS A ELDERLY MAN, BUT IN FAIR SHAPE, ONE OF THE SCRAPY TYPE. I DO HAVE 4X4, SO OFF ROAD IN THE STICKS AIN'T NO PROBLEM. ERIC STELTER COMET::STELTER 548-6960 CXO1 THANKS.....

There is some good hunting north of Vail in unit 36. There is also a wilderness that you can drive up to, and then park. You will have to get a map. With out being there...There is an access road right off of the highway (east of MCDonalds) that will get you over the first major range (going north). Jeff...

1183.3 | Another suggestion. | MULEY::KOOSER | There's a rebel at every level. | Wed Aug 19 1992 20:04 | 24 |
Eric, Suggestion. Area 371 and 37 (joint area) have extra mixed sex (does are legal all season and bucks are only legal the first 3 days of the season) deer licenses left over for 2nd and 3rd seasons. The area is north of Frisco and south of Kremlin. You may want to pick up one just in case you're not have luck with the elk/deer north of Vail. I know that the area north of Vail gets hit pretty hard in the first season and this pressure tends to push the elk away from the roads. .... But on the otherhand, one never knows, and an early snow is liable to solve the eariler season pressures. Anyway, area 371 and 37 is beautiful and they are both full of elk and deer. 371 contains the highest number of elk and 371 and 37 are about equal in terms of deer count. Permits are available at the DOW on Weber for $20.25 and when I got mine there were about 100 left. Good luck, Mark
